The San Diego Chargers, 17-6 in a contest that was never close at all.
While the Titans won their final three regular season contests to narrowly reach the postseason, the Titans beat two patsies in the Indianapolis Colts team that had nothing to play for in the regular season finale.
Then, the Chargers exposed the Titans lack of a passing game under athletic-but-still -earning quarterback Vince Young. The Titans averaged a poor 179.9 passing yards per game to finish 27th in the league. Their fifth-ranked rushing attack helped during stretches but eventually, defenses stacked the box with seven defenders, daring Young and his mostly mediocre receiving core to try and beat them with the pass.
The Titans signed veteran tight end Algae Crumpler to help Young and added underrated wide receiver Justin McCareins as well.
Tennessee recorded an respectable 8-8 record against the spread, going 3-5 at home and 5-3 on the road and kept the total ‘Under’ the spread in 10 of their 16 games, with five others going over and one push.
The Titans went 2-5-1 in O/U home wagers and 3-5 O/U in O/U road contests.
If Tennessee can improve its offense, particularly its mediocre passing attack, the Titans could find themselves making a deep playoff run in 2008.
