NFC South Teams In Danger Against The Spread

Kansas City To Give New Orleans Another Headache
Despite a season-gone-wrong, the Chiefs are 4-2 ATS this season. That’s not bad for a team that nobody expected to win a game. You can question Herm Edwards all you want about going for the two-point conversion in last Sunday’s heartbreaker against San Diego, but what else was he going to do? Allow his defense to get slaughtered and embarrassed in overtime?
He won’t need that kind of pick-me-up on Sunday against the Saints. New Orleans is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on the road. It feels like ages since they’ve won away from the Superdome. Maybe that’s because they’re WINLESS ON THE ROAD this year! Sorry, I got mad when people keep yammering about how good the Saints are and all they’ve proven is that they can’t win jack squat. Oh and by the way, Larry Johnson’s back and he is not in a good mood…
NFL Free Pick: KC +5.5 (UNDER 50.5)
Bucs Secondary To Derail the Gus Bus
If you’re one of the dumbasses who thinks that all the Vikings have to do now is lean on Adrian Peterson, then I’m actually surprised you’re literate enough to read this article. If it were that easy, then the Vikings would’ve been doing that all season! The truth is that as good as All Day can be, bullying the Vikes to a 143.2 rushing yards per game average, the Vikings simply can not score touchdowns.
The Vikings are 1-4 ATS and SU when playing the Bucs in their last five meetings. And, just to remind you, the Bucs are 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five home games period. Adrian Peterson is going to give the Bucs’ front-seven night terrors, but the secondary will capitalize on Gus being Gus and tossing up picks to the ball-hawking vultures in the Bucs’ defensive wings.
NFL Free Pick: Tampa -4 (UNDER 38.5)
Carolina Might Not Cover Against Detroit
Something went weird with Jake Delhomme last weekend. He put up four picks, though a couple of those were tipped. But he also overthrew his targets by an alarming range. Carolina has averaged 21.2 points per game, and needed the unbelievable services of DeAngelo Williams to secure the win against Oakland. They get an equally easy challenge when they face the winless Detroit Lions. The problem? A 14-point spread.
The Panthers are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games, and their secondary is ranked thirteenth in the league with only 197.2 yards gained through the air when they host opponents. They also have the second best defense in the league with 14.8 points against. I know that Detroit is bad – like, unbelievably terrible – but I just can’t fathom this Panthers team covering a spread this big. Tease if you want, or be smart spots betting fans, just bet on Detroit (for once).
NFL Free Pick: Detroit +14 (UNDER 40)
Matt Ryan Battling For ROY Honors
Anyone else ready to anoint Matt Ryan for rookie of the year? Sure Chris Johnson of the Titans is going to have something to say about it, but the Falcons are in the thick of the NFC Wildcard race. A win over the Broncos will thrust them in to the hype spotlight. Can the Falcons continue a 5-0 ATS record when playing at home?
The answer: YES WE CAN! Denver continues to be one of the worst bets in football, and is trotting out their eighth or ninth string tailback. I don’t even know the guys name. One of my idiot friends who loves fantasy more than football keeps trying to trade him around. Anyways, Jason Elam and the Falcons are going to rip apart one of the league’s worst defenses with a solid passing and an incredibly fast running game. Denver is ranked 32nd with 195 rushing yards allowed on the road. Hello Michael “Burner” Turner and “Serious” Jerious Norwood!
NFL Free Pick: Atlanta -6.5 (OVER 51)
