Now here is the thing. I watched that Sunday night game with Denver and Seattle, and I’m thinking the Broncs are in the tank because they're starting Jay Cutler at quarterback even though former starter Jake Plummer led the team to a 7-4 record. So head coach Mike Shanahan says after the game that he was pleased with Cutler’s performance even though his line was 10 for 21 passing with only 143 yards with 2 TDs and 2 Ints. Coach afterwards goes: “I’m a little disappointed in myself. I think I put too much in the game plan for this being his first game.” Jay afterwards goes:
“I made some mistakes. I blame myself.” You gotta respect a man who can own up to his mistakes. Think Plummer would have been able to handle the game plan, Coach? Here’s Week 14.
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS -1.5 AT JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS +1.5
Stop the damn presses! The Colts are 1-2 in their last three games. What is this? A repeat… is what it is. This team went 13-0 last season before losing 3 of four games afterwards, including a divisional playoff against Pittsburgh that will go down as a game for the ages. This Colt team just has no luck and cannot buy a Super Bowl. QB Peyton Manning threw more picks than touchdowns last week, and the Colts lose when that happens. Teams once again believe that they can play with them, and that spells r-e-p-e-a-t… of losses. Just not this week.
PREDICTION: Colts to cover
NEW YORK GIANTS +3 AT CAROLINA PANTHERS -3
The Giants are one big Yo-Yo… just up and down all the time. They start out 1-2, win the next five to look like they kickin’ tail at 6-2, and now they 6-6. QB Eli Manning has a quarterback rating of 78.9 and it will be said once again that he is not his brother mentioned in the previous game up in here. The Panthers and DE Julius Peppers in particular made me look bad after I hyped them and him up… they couldn’t get near Philly QB Jeff Garcia.
I guess what I’m trying to say here is pick the best of a worse lot, if you catch my drift.
PREDICTION: Panthers to cover
DENVER BRONCOS +8 AT SAN DIEGO CHARGERS -8
You read what I put down to start this above and because of Jay Cutler this spread is high as hell… would lead the weekend in gap length if weren’t for my beloved Oakland Reekers who have the easy task of traveling to the Cincinnati Bengals’ house this weekend. Get spanked. And that goes for the Broncos, who will continue to do so if they keep this rookie in. But I’m glad to see that MLB Al Wilson is alright after getting carted off in that Seattle contest. They have him questionable for this game, but I’d be shocked if he played after he still had numbness in his shoulders Monday.
PREDICTION: Chargers to cover
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS +7 AT DALLAS COWBOYS -7
I love it when NFL games come down to simple mathematics. Love it. It makes my job so, so much easier. Now before I display my wonderful equation skills, I must state that the Saints are dreaming in Technicolor if they think that RB Reggie Bush will get another four touchdowns… these, folks, are not the San Francisco 49ers the Saints’ playing this week. Now for the plusses and minuses: If the Saints are plus the injured WR duo of Joe Horn and Marques Colston, they will cover. If they are minus, they won’t. See how easy all this betting stuff is??? (Yeah right, buddy)
PREDICTION: Saints to cover
