NFL Football Betting - Miami Dolphins vs. Denver Broncos

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

It could be a potential AFC playoff preview on display this Sunday afternoon, and BetUS has all of the great sports betting action covered when the Miami Dolphins (3-4, 4-3 ATS) invade Invesco Field to do battle with the Denver Broncos (4-3, 1-5-1 ATS).

None of the NFL betting trends are going to look pretty for those looking to wager on Denver, as it is just 1-8-1 ATS in nine meetings against the Fish since 1985. Miami went 7-2 SU in those games even though they’ve only outscored them 236-208; six of the nine match-ups went ‘over’ the ‘total’.

It was a game that QB Chad Pennington classified as a “must-win” for the 2-4 Dolphins when they took on AFC East leading Buffalo over the weekend. The game wasn’t the prettiest the Fish ever played, but they got the job done with a 25-16 victory over the Bills. Miami has been clutch for its football bettors of late, as it is now 4-1 ATS in its L/5 and covered those four by an average of 15.3 points per game.

Pennington has proven to be an invaluable off-season acquisition, as the former Marshall star has thrown for 1,710 yards and is leading the 6th ranked passing attack in the NFL (246.9 yards per game).

None of the numbers for the Miami defense are staggering, but LB Joey Porter leads the NFL with 9.5 sacks, including two on Buffalo QB Trent Edwards in Week 8.

Denver had a bye from NFL betting action last weekend, and it couldn’t have come at a better point in time for HC Mike Shanahan and the Broncos. They’ll be looking to snap a coverless streak since the opening Monday night of the season when they easily disposed of the Raiders. The Broncos had lost their L/2 to Jacksonville and New England by a combined score of 65-24 and are starting to look like a mediocre team.

The only thing keeping Denver on the top of the AFC West is the fact that San Diego is struggling as well.

After opening up the ’08 campaign with three straight games scoring at least 34 points, the Broncos have crashed back to earth, averaging just 14.8 points per game in their L/4. Denver hasn’t scored 20 points once during that stretch. That’s awful news for a defense which ranks 30th in the league in yards per game allowed (396) and 29th in points allowed (27.9).

Earlier in the season, you’d think that this line would be a bit higher, but oddsmakers installed the Broncos as mere 3.5-point favorites on Sunday. The ‘total’ is set at 49. Consider adding the ‘under’ to your football betting card this weekend. The ‘under’ is 3-0-1 in Denver’s L/4 games against AFC East opposition. Miami can almost say the same, as they are 3-1 for the ‘under’ in their L/4 against the AFC West.
