Believe it or not, this game could turn out to be one of the most exciting games on the week-one slate.
Although the Cardinals are coming off a 5-11 season in which they fired head coach Dennis Green for his failure to elevate this team to a .500 level, Arizona has plenty of reasons to believe they can vastly improve inside of the next couple of seasons.
The Cardinals have a new head coach in former Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and have a quarterback in Matt Leinart that clearly has a chance to be very special.
Arizona also has one of the best groups of offensive skill players in the game, with wideouts Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald and running back Edgerrin James.
The Niners are coming off a fine 7-9 season in which they competed hard in every contest for head coach Mike Nolan and found out they had a superstar in the making in running back Frank Gore.
If the Niners can continue their improvement this season, they could go 9-7 instead of the other way around. However, it is time for quarterback Alex Smith to step up another level to improve on San Francisco’s 26-th ranked offense from last season.
This is going to be a very exciting game, but in the end, take the Niners because they are at home.
NFL Free Pick: San Francisco -3
All NFL props.
