NFL Lock of the Week: New England Patriots vs New York Jets

The National Football League has yet another great slate of games on tap for Week 6. There are 4 teams on "bye" including the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks. There are some pretty entertaining games on tap for Week 6. I have put together my NFL Lock of the Week that comes from a divisional game out of the AFC East. Let's take a look at my favorite play for Week 6.

The New England Patriots and New York Jets are set to get together in a battle of AFC East teams. There are a trio of teams at the top of the division with a 3-2 record. The Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and New England Patriots leading the way. The winner of this big game on Sunday will at least keep a share of the divisional lead. This is the first of two meetings between these two divisional rivals.

Brady and Belichick Back on Track

The New England Patriots are coming off a Thursday Night Football road win at Tampa Bay. The Patriots needed the win after losing at home to the Panthers the week before. In fact, the Patriots have lost twice at home this season. New England has scored 27 points or more in four of their five games this season, and on the season are averaging over 29 points per game. The Patriots are the top passing team in the league with 320 yards per game.

Rob Gronkowski sat out the game against the Buccaneers. He was the top receiver before the injury. Now, Brandin Cooks has overtaken Gronkowski for that spot with 379 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Patriots run game is averaging less than 100 yards per game. Mike Gillislee is the top running back for New England, as he has come away with 246 yards and four touchdowns on the ground this season. The Patriots are 30th in team defense, allowing more than 26 points per game.

Jets Winners of 3 Straight

The New York Jets started the season 0-2. Many thought the Jets would have a tough time winning any games this season. Their 3-0 run thins Week 2 has certainly gotten many bettors' attention. The Jets have beaten the Dolphins, Jaguars and Browns while allowing just 12.6 points per game. The offense has scored 20 points per game during this streak.

Offensively, the Jets are watching guys do a little bit over everything. Bilal Powell has been the top running back for the Jets, and Robby Anderson is the top receiver. The schedule for New York will certainly get tougher, starting with this game. The Jets will go to Miami next week before they come back home and take on the Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills.

Patriots Roll Jets

This should be an interesting game. The New York Jets have a ton of confidence, but it could be "false confidence" as the teams they have beaten are simply not good. Will that make a difference in this game? Confidence can only take you so far when you go up against a team that has far more talent like the Patriots. Look for the Patriots to run the Jets off the field with a couple quick strikes.

There has been some talk about the Patriots defense struggling, but after the win over Tampa Bay - maybe they have some things figured out. They are the defending Super Bowl champs for a reason. Take the Patriots over the Jets in this game on Sunday in a big way.
