NFL Wagering Action - Receivers Walking Wounded

Injuries have become a big part of this year’s playoff picture for at least three teams heading into this weekend’s Divisional Round. Three big-name wide receivers landed on this week’s injury report which could make or break their team’s season, as well as NFL betting bankrolls.

The Tennessee. The injury was so painful that Gates could not get to his feet to get off the field, and had to be removed on a cart. Gates has not stepped onto the field (game or practice) since.

Losing Gates would be disastrous to the Chargers’ offense. During the season Gates led San Diego in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown receptions. Not only does Gates put up big numbers he’s also the go-to target and safety net for Chargers’ quarterback Philip Rivers. Rivers, who showed erratic tendencies throughout the season, played some of his most consistent football near the end of the season, but that may change if Gates is out on Sunday.

While the Chargers watched their No. 1 receiver go down last week their Divisional Round opponent, the Colts, may finally be ready to welcome their No. 1 target back to action. Marvin Harrison has played only five games this season and has missed Indy’s last 10 games with a knee injury. Harrison finally returned to practice last week and according to head coach Tony Dungy the team is planning on him starting this weekend.

Add Harrison alongside Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and rookie Anthony Gonzalez and the Colts’ receiving corps has some major clout. There is a chance that Harrison could show some rust after such a long layoff, but considering the long history between him and Peyton Manning it wouldn’t be surprising if he stepped right back in without a hitch. With Harrison due back and Gates looking doubtful, the NFL odds for Sunday’s game.

In Sunday’s other game the Cowboys’ final game of the season. Even with the Cowboys off last week, Owens may not be healthy enough to suit up on Sunday.

Owens hasn’t practiced since suffering the injury and may not get in any practice time at all before Sunday’s game. The latest news on Owens says he’s making progress, but will likely be a game-time decision. If only bettors had the luxury to wait and see before making their bets.

The 2007 and beyond!
