NFL Week 7 Betting – Home Dogs

Bookmark and Share by Dave D

Four NFL home dogs on the ticket this week, which includes Kansas City, Cincinnati, Oakland and Green Bay as underdogs in their own backyard. Let’s take a closer look to see who can cash in for us:

Kansas City Chiefs (+9)

The Kansas City Chiefs are already one of the worst teams in the league and now they’ll be even more shorthanded as their lead running back, Larry Johnson, will be out for Sunday’s game due to suspension.

The Chiefs were similar underdogs when the Denver Broncos visited a couple of weeks ago but this is a different scenario. For starters, Brodie Croyle will be under center instead of Damon Huard. Secondly, the Chiefs tried to trade their top-flight tight end Tony Gonzlaez prior to the NFL trade deadline and it didn’t work out, which left some bad blood between Gonzalez and management. There’s just a lot of turmoil in the Chiefs clubhouse right now while the Tennessee Titans roll in nice and quiet off a bye week. Hard to lay the points with the Titans, especially at Arrowhead, but the Chiefs have too many problems to deal with.

Free Pick: Titans -9

Cincinnati Bengals (+9.5)

The Cincinnati Bengals are in a very similar position to the Chiefs, minus the mid-week turmoil. But the Bengals are the Bengals, and turmoil is part of their repertoire.

This week they host the Steelers, who are off their bye week, and the Bengals will be without starting quarterback Carson Palmer. The Bengals were competitive last weekend in New York against the Jets but they were never really in a serious position to win the game.

Look for the Steelers to look fresh after an off week and roll once again. There is a big disparity in talent and coaching between the two teams.

Free Pick: Steelers -9

Oakland Raiders (+3)

The Oakland Raiders, who were fairly competitive under Lane Kiffin, looked very sloppy in their first test under interim head coach, Tom Cable. The Raiders held an early 3-0 and had a chance to make it 6-0 or 10-0 when they ventured to the Saints red zone for a second time in the first quarter but ended up losing 24-3.

Now they face the New York Jets, who seem to be rolling a little bit after a sluggish start to the season. The Raiders will need a fiery defensive performance to keep this game from getting ugly because Brett Favre is starting to click with his receivers.

On the flipside, the Jets defense is finding their rhythm, which will make it tough for Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell, who has had little to work with in the past couple of weeks. Russell has no reliable wide receivers and with injuries in the running game, he’s been hung out to dry. Look for the Raiders to keep it close in the first half and fade in the second half.

Free Pick: Jets -3

Green Bay Packers (+1.5)

The Green Bay Packers had a nice win in Seattle last weekend but they might be in tough against the Indianapolis Colts.

When you look at the Packers travels this season, they’ve faced some questionable quarterbacks. They faced Tarvaris Jackson and Jon Kitna, who have since been benched. They also faced Charlie Frye, who is another backup quarterback, and Matt Ryan, who is a rookie.

The two veterans that they’ve faced – Tony Romo and Brian Griese – handed them losses.

Peyton Manning and his potent Colts offense actually looked like its regular self last weekend against the top-ranked Ravens defense. Look for them to keep rolling at Lambeau Field.

Free Pick: Indianapolis -1.5
