Super Bowl 2010 Game Total - Betting the Over or Under

Bookmark and Share by Sean Rowsome

Betting on the Super Bowl this year is going to be more exciting then in previous years.  For the first time in recent memory the NFL gods have seen fit to grant us with two prolific offenses, and two gun-slinging quarter backs.

This will be the greatest shootout since the OK Coral.  The question that you have to ask yourself when betting the over / under on points is how wide open they are going to play early.

This Super Bowl Sunday, if both teams come out the way they have come out every game, then we are going to see one of the highest scoring Super Bowls.  Ever.

The over / under for this bet is 56 1/2 total points.  When you break that down based on the Super Bowl point spread of 4 1/2, we assume that the score is going to be roughly Indy 31, New Orleans 24 (and a half).

Both teams have shown the ability to put up big numbers against good defenses, and this post season, Indy has put up 50, and New Orleans has 76 total points.  Giving Indy 25 points per game and the Saints 38.  There is every indication that this scoring trend will continue.

The Colts scored 416 points during the regular season for an average of 26 points a game.  The Saints netted 510 for an average of 31.  That is 57 total points on average per game combined.  When you look at it like that, you really start to get an appreciation for the science behind the numbers.  When betting total points do not make the mistake of thinking the numbers you are betting on are arbitrary.

Based on the trending and consistency in scoring for both teams, take the overs across the board.  Take the over on 56 1/2 total points playing -110 on the Moneyline, take the Saints to go over 24 /1/2 points for -140, and Indy to go over 31 for -110.
