Thursday Night Football: Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

A pair of AFC South rivals will kick off week 14 of the NFL regular season. The Tennessee Titans will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in a game that features two playoff teams from a season ago. Both the Titans and Jaguars have struggled in 2018, but Tennessee still has a small chance to reach the playoffs. Tennessee beat the Jaguars in a low scoring affair earlier this season by a score of 9-6.

Tennessee comes into this game with a 6-6 record, and will need some help to reach the playoffs this season. The Titans were able to snap a brief two game losing streak with a win over the Jets in week 13, but they haven't been consistent all season. Jacksonville snapped a miserable seven game losing streak with a win over the Indianapolis Colts in week 13. The Jaguars are just 4-8 this season. Tennessee is a five point favorite over Jacksonville in this game.

Jaguars Can't Score Points

The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the worst offensive teams in the NFL this season, averaging just 17.9 points per game. Jacksonville failed to score an offensive touchdown in their week 13 victory, but were able to ride the defense to a victory. Quarterback Cody Kessler took over the job as starting quarterback against the Colts, and struggled in the game. Kessler threw for just 150 yards in his first start with the Jaguars, but earned the victory.

Defensively, the Jaguars feature one of the more talented units in the entire NFL. The Jags forced two turnovers and sacked Colts quarterback Andrew Luck three times in the week 13 victory. The Jaguars have allowed just 22.1 points per game this season, but they have been lit up a few times by some of the top teams in the NFL. Jacksonville will face a struggling Titans offense in this matchup, and could be in for a second straight dominating performance.

Titans "D" Carrying Team

The Tennessee Titans defense has kept the team in the playoff hunt while they still wait from more consistency from the offense. The Titans have given up just 20.3 points per game this season, and have the ability to complete shut down opponents. Tennessee has forced just nine turnovers on defense this season, but they have been great at limiting teams in the red zone. Jayon Brown and Jurrell Casey have combined for 9.5 sacks for the Titans this season.

While the defense has dominated this season, the Titans offense has been well below league average. The Titans are averaging just 17.7 points per game this season, which is even worse than the Jaguars. Quarterback Marcus Mariota has battled injuries this season, but has thrown for just 1,886 yards and nine touchdowns this season. Running back Dion Lewis has emerged as an offensive weapon, racking up over 700 yards of total offense.

Tennessee Wins At Home

These two teams were expected to rule the NFC South this season, but that has not been the case. The Jaguars have given up on starting quarterback Blake Bortles, and in part given up on their season. Tennessee still has plenty to play for, but they will likely need to win out to reach the playoffs. This game should be very low scoring, but the Titans will find just enough offense to win at home. Bet Tennessee -5.0 to beat the Jaguars by a touchdown in this game.
