2008 Arizona Cardinals Regular Season Win Total Odds

Bookmark and Share by BetUS Staff

The Arizona Cardinals, (8-8 SU, 9-7 ATS, 11-5 O/U) recorded a solid 8-8 record in 2007 in head coach Ken Whisenhunt’s first season at the helm and enter the 2008 NFL regular season expecting even bigger and better things, like a possible playoff appearance in 2008.

Despite splitting time between quarterbacks Matt Leinart and veteran Kurt Warner last season, the Cardinals managed to rank 12th in overall offense, including fifth is passing yards per game, (253.6ypg) and seventh in points per game, (25.2ppg).

Defensively, Arizona ranked 17th overall, allowing opponents to average 330.6 totals yards per game, including 28th in pass defense, (232.1 ypg) and 27th in points allowed per game, (24.9 ppg).

The Cardinals drafted athletic cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie out of Tennessee State and the young defensive back could start right away as Whisenhunt overhauls his team’s uninspiring defensive unit.

While Arizona recorded a solid 8-8 straight up record, the Cardinals came through for NFL bettors in a big way last season, going 5-3 ATS at home and 4-4 ATS on the road. Arizona also used its surprising offense to go ‘Over’ the O/U spread in 11 games, going 11-5 in all O/U wagers.

Here is a look at Arizona’s 2008 regular season schedule, followed by my brief comment on each contest and overall analysis on how the Cardinals will fare in 2008:

09/07/08 @ San Francisco 49ers

BetUS NFL bettors who read my NFL Week One Pick on this game already know I like the Cardinals to win outright here. Win.

09/14/08 Miami Dolphins

I say the Cardinals get off to a quick 2-0 start b beating their inferior opponents. Win.

09/21/08 @ Washington Redskins

The Cardinals win their third straight game to start the season – and no, I’m not nuts! Win.

09/28/08 @ New York Jets

Green Bay’s loss will bet the Jets’ gain. Brett Favre pulls this one out for the Jets. Loss.

10/05/08 Buffalo Bills

I say the Cardinals get back in the win column in this contest. Win.

10/12/08 Dallas Cowboys

They’re play at home, but no way does Arizona win this game. Loss.

10/26/08 @ Carolina Panthers

I’m not really enamored with the Panthers this season, but I think they win this one. Loss.

BYE

11/02/08 @ St. Louis Rams

The Rams have to win some games this season don’t they? Loss.

11/10/08 San Francisco 49ers

How about a season sweep of the Niners? I think so NFL bettors. Win.

11/16/08 @ Seattle Seahawks

Seattle will be too tough to defeat at home here. Loss.

11/23/08 New York Giants

The Giants win this one handily at home. Loss

11/27/08 @ Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles have mediocrity written all over their team, but manage to pull this one out. Loss

12/07/08 St. Louis Rams

I see another division season sweep in the cards for the Cardinals! Win

12/14/08 Minnesota Vikings

I’m thinking Adrian Peterson runs wild in this contest but Arizona somehow wins. Win.

12/21/08 @ New England Patriots

No way Jose – the Cardinals are going down hard here! Loss.

12/28/08 Seattle Seahawks

I smell a little revenge in this contest as Arizona fights for their playoff lives. Win.

Analysis: I really think head coach Ken Whisenhunt has this team heading in the right direction and that a playoff appearance is certainly a possibility in the wide-open NFC. However, I have them going 8-8 once again, making their O/U total of eight wins a push. If I were leaning one way or the other, I’d say tae Arizona to find a way to nab a ninth win and cover the ‘Over’ for this NFL Futures wager.
