AFC Championship Game Props - Jets vs. Colts

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

It’s time to take a look at the prop wagers that the NFL Sportsbook is offering to gamblers for the AFC Championship Game.

The New York Jets are 7 ½ point underdogs in the sportsbook to beat the Indianapolis Colts. The key in the game is whether or not the Jets’ defense can stop Peyton Manning and the Colts’ terrific offense.

That also happens to be the key in deciding on which propositions to wager. If sports gamblers believe that the Colts cover, then betting propositions that favor the Colts might be the way to go. However, if sports gamblers believe that the Jets can somehow pull off the upset, then betting propositions that favor the Jets is the way to go.

My feeling is that the Colts will cover the spread, but they shouldn’t blow out the Jets. Instead, the Colts will take their time and methodically build a 10 to 14 points lead over New York.

Let’s take a look at the best propositions to bet in this game.

AFC Conference Championship Prop Bets

First Score of the Game

TD -160
Any Other +130

Analysis: The thinking behind this prop must be that the Colts get the ball first, march down the field, and then punch it in for a touchdown. The Jets could score a touchdown first, but New York is somewhat one-dimensional. The odds of the Jets actually scoring a touchdown first just aren’t very good. More than likely, they will score a field goal.

Is it worth it to wager that the Colts score a field goal first as well? Actually, yes. The Jets’ D should get very stingy once the Colts reach the red zone even though Joseph Addai ran it in from 21 yards for the first score when these two teams met during the regular season.

NFL Free Pick: Any Other +130

Total Field Goals Made By Both Teams

Over 3 ½ FGs Made +130
Under 3 ½ FGs Made -160

Analysis: By half time in the 1st game between these two teams, two field goals had already been made. What will change in this game? Not much.

The Colts should definitely put up at least 2 field goals. The Jets should put up around 3 field goals. The Colts’ bend but don’t break defense will allow the Jets to get close, but actually getting into the end zone might be a problem as the Jets are one-dimensional.

This is another terrific prop bet where a case can be made to bet on the higher odd prop.

NFL Free Pick: Over 3 ½ FGs Made +130

Mark Sanchez Passing

51-100 Passing Yards +900
101-120 Passing Yards +700
121-140 Passing Yards +500

Analysis: Sanchez hasn’t passed for more than 200 yards in a game since he threw for 226 in Week 15 against Atlanta. In the first game between these two teams, Sanchez passed for 106 yards.

In his first post-season game, Sanchez passed for 182 yards. That was against the Cincinnati Bengals. Against the San Diego Chargers, Sanchez passed for an even 100 yards.

What will Sanchez do against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday? It’s a guess, of course, but 101-120 looks like the best wager. The Colts’ defensive backs are pretty good and Indy likes to play a Cover 2 as it is. Not only that, but New York figures to rush the ball on almost every play.

Sanchez just doesn’t make that many good decisions. Against a well-disciplined Colts’ D, every throw could end in disaster. Jets’ coach Rex Ryan won’t let that happen by keeping the ball in the hands of his running backs.
