AFC West Regular Season Wins Prop– Chargers to Take Lowly Division

Bookmark and Share by Eric Williams

The AFC West was absolutely mediocre in 2008 with not one team in the division recording a winning record. The top teams, San Diego and Denver, recorded unimpressive 8-8 SU records despite each team’s better-than average talent-base, particularly San Diego’s.

Now, heading into the 2009 regular season, all four AFC West teams will be looking to improve in a big way – and you can cash in on each franchise with the entertaining, season-long Win Total Props Odds in the BetUS Sportsbook.

With opening day quickly approaching, let’s get started.

San Diego Chargers

Over 9½ Wins -170

Under 9½ Wins +140

Analysis: The San Diego Chargers (8-8 SU, 7-8-1 ATS, 8-7-1 O/U) took a step backwards from 2007, falling to 8-8 after going a stellar in 2007.

Now the Bolts are expecting to bounce back in a big way and challenge for the AFC title in 2009. However, despite this team’s unquestionable talent, questions abound.

San Diego has home games against Baltimore, Miami, Denver, Oakland, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Cincinnati and Washington and I believe they are looking at a likely 6-2 or 5-3 home mark with its toughest games coming against Baltimore, Miami and Philadelphia.

The Chargers have road games against Oakland, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, New York Giants, Denver, Cleveland, Dallas and Tennessee and I think Chargers backers are looking at a 4-4 road record in 2009, giving them either nine (9) or ten (10) wins this coming season.

While it’s quite possible the Chargers could reach double digits in wins in 2009, I have the Bolts winning nine games – and falling just Under their set O/U win total for this season-long wager.

NFL Pick: Chargers Under 9½ Wins

Denver Broncos

Over 7 Wins +135

Under 7 Wins -165

Analysis: The Broncos (8-8 SU, 4-11-1 ATS, 8-7-1 O/U) have a new head coach in Josh McDaniels, a new starting quarterback in Kyle Orton and plenty of issues like dealing with head case wide receiver Brandon Marshall, long before McDaniels ever gets to coach his first NFL regular season contest.

The Broncos host Cleveland, Dallas, New England, Pittsburgh, San Diego, New York Giants, Oakland and Kansas City in 2009 and I think it’s reasonable to believe they will lose at least four of those contests and possibly five.

Denver has road games against Cincinnati, Oakland, San Diego, Baltimore, Washington, Kansas City, Indianapolis and Philadelphia and the Broncos will almost undoubtedly lose four of these games as well.

To make a long story short, BetUS NFL betting members, the Denver Broncos almost assuredly won’t be better than they were in 2008 when they went a mediocre 8-8 SU.

I like the Broncos to go either 8-8 or 7-9 in 2009, but when forced to make a pick on which one, I say the Broncos fall just short of eight regular season wins.

NFL Pick: Broncos Push

Kansas City Chiefs

Over 6 Wins Ev

Under 6 Wins -130

Analysis: The Kansas City Chiefs (2-14 SU, 8-8 ATS, 8-8 O/U) really fell on hard times last season, recording just two wins, but looked to be headed in the right direction after hiring

Former New England vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli to take over as the franchise’s new general manager. He subsequently hired former Arizona offensive coordinator Todd Haley as the team’s new head coach who has subsequently fired the offensive coordinator with two weeks to go before the season. What a mess.

This is definitely a rebuilding franchise, but the Chiefs will have to crawl in 2009 before they can learn to walk again. Speaking of walking again, their prize off-season acquisition, Matt Cassel, is out for at least a month with a sprained knee.

Kansas City has home games against Oakland, New York Giants, Dallas, San Diego, Pittsburgh, Denver, Buffalo and Cleveland, but will be hard-pressed to win more than three of these contests in my estimation.

Kansas City also hits the road this season to take on Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, Jacksonville, Oakland, San Diego, Cincinnati and Denver and this time around, I think the Chiefs will record at least three wins giving them a total of six wins with an outside shot at reaching seven. Call me crazy, but I say the Kansas City Chiefs play over their win total O/U here.

NFL Pick: Chiefs Over 5½ Wins

Oakland Raiders

Over 5½ Wins -135

Under 5½ Wins +105

Analysis: As an ‘old-school’ guy that grew up watching the famed Raiders (5-11 SU, 7-9 ATS, 6-9-1 O/U) teams of the 1970s and 80s, let me say that it’s a damn shame to see how far the Raiders organization has fallen.

Now, this year’s Raiders will enter the 2009 regular season with a head coach that many are calling to be suspended after breaking the jaw of a former assistant coach. Things aren’t looking very promising in Raiderville.

Oakland has home games against San Diego, Denver, Philadelphia, New York Jets, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Washington and Baltimore and I like the Raiders, even in their current state of dysfunction, to win at least three of these games and possibly four with winnable games against the Jets, Chiefs, Bengals and Redskins.

Oakland hits the road to take on Kansas City, Houston, the New York Giants, San Diego, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Denver and Cleveland and here is where I see bigger problems with Oakland managing just two road wins at best and a season total of six wins.

Clueless or not, Oakland goes Over their set O/U total here.

NFL Pick: Raiders Over 5½ Wins
