THE MICHAEL VICK PROP WATCH

We love Michael Vick, because he's going to make for such great copy during the 2009 NFL betting season. Believe me, that goes for whether he is a rousing success or a spectacular failure. That's why we are so glad that the guys at BetUS threw up some of these Michael Vick-related odds for both serious consideration and tongue-in-cheek amusement.

Let's take a crack at a few of them:

Will a dog make it onto the field during a 2009 Eagles game?
* Yes 10/1

Are you guys kidding? Please understand, this is Philadelphia, home of some of the nastiest and filthiest city streets, not to mention some of the nastiest sports fans in this great country of ours. I mean, these people will boo you when you're WINNING. I've got to believe that somewhere along the way there are going to be some Eagles fans who just don't like the idea of Vick on this team to begin with, and because this is Philadelphia, they will figure out a way to get an unwashed dog into Lincoln Financial Field and let him loose. Come on, there are SportsCenter highlights at stake here! At the very least, once this guy throws an interception or two, they'll want to stick him in the cage with a pit bull. This place is so bad that it wouldn't surprise me if the cops on duty at the game cut the leash on their police dogs and let them go chase Vick around. My prediction is that the Eagles will have to have at minimum a two touchdown lead to prevent this from happening. This thing is way overpriced.

YES!! (10/1)

Will Michael Vick Bark like a Dog after a TD?
* Yes 4/1

Will Michael Vick bark like a dog after a TD? Michael Vick will bark like a dog before a TD, after a TD, and during a TD. Michael Vick will hear that during a game so much that he won't be able to go to sleep at night without hearing it. Then he'll imitate, because at this point in his life it's clever strategy just to "fit in."

YES (4/1)

Who will throw a TD pass first?
* Kolb 7/5
* Vick 5/8

How dare you guys come up with something serious in the middle of all this! The deal is that Andy Reid has made it clear that Kevin Kolb is the #2 quarterback for the Eagles. That means he'll play if anything happens to Donovan McNabb, at least for the time being. In blowouts, he'll also be the one to call on, provided, of course, that his knee allows him to do it. Remember that Vick, as it stands now, is suspended until the sixth game of the season, and after that he may be brought in relatively slowly. Even if commissioner Roger Goodell shrinks the suspension to three games, that's three games he can't play. Under the circumstances I don;t mind taking the price, which is +140 at BetUS on Kolb.

KOLB (7/5)

After a Vick sack will the defender get on all fours?
* Yes 3/1

I'm really grappling with this one, because there are some truly crazy guys in the NFL - guys who will take five times the amount of steroids so they can lift five times as much weight. I could possibly see one of them getting worked up enough to do something like this, but then I'm wondering how much abuse the guy is going to take in the film room during the week. Sorry, I can't go with this one.

Will an opponent be penalized for taunting Vick?
* Yes 3/1

This may be somewhat mutually inclusive with the previous prop. I mean, if a guy who sacks Vick gets on all fours, that's kind of a taunting thing, isn't it? I know that Vick has gotten a lot of support from his fellow players around the NFL, about how he's "paid his debt to society": and all that. Just think about how many players have pets, though, and how many wives may be pressuring their men to go and take this guy's head off (women love dogs, you know). He'll be taunted sooner than you think, and that will inevitably come with penalty.

YES (3/1)

Will the Stadium PA 'Who Let the Dogs Out' during the PHI-ATL game?
* No 5/1

Again, I refer you to the top of this story. This is Philadelphia we're talking about. Why the hell not? This is a one-way prop, but I can't go with the "NO"

Who will be the next NFL Player Arrested?

  • Tank Johnson 5/1
  • Chris Henry 3/1
  • Leroy Hill 6/1
  • Jamal Williams 7/1
  • Jeff Reed 7/1
  • Fabian Washington 15/2
  • Jonathan Vilma 8/1
  • Larry Johnson 8/1
  • Marshawn Lynch 8/1
  • Rocky Bernard 9/1
  • Brandon Walker 10/1
  • Donte Whitner 12/1
  • Brandon Marshall 12/1
  • Albert Haynesworth 15/1
  • Bryant McKinnie 15/1
  • MICHAEL VICK 20/1
  • Peyton Manning 50/1

I can't tell you who will be next. If it's Johnson or Perry, we'll surely see some nice film of it on HBO's "Hard Knocks." If it's Manning, it will certainly make it to TMZ. As for Vick, whoever made this field didn't hear the latest piece of news:

Michael Vick is drinking the Grey Goose!

Now, even though it would be a violation of NFL rules, there seems to be some question as to whether he can really do it under the terms of his release, but even if he gets by with it, don't forget that not-so-secret formula:

Alcohol + Violent Pathology = Arrest, sooner or later

20-to-1? Get me some of that, baby.
