NFC Championship Game - Vikings vs. Saints Prop Picks

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

Right now you can get action on QB completions, Adrian Peterson’s rushing yards, and even the longest field goal of the game. With this figuring to be the more exciting of the two playoff games, as well as the toughest to call, lets try and find some proposition bets that seem like safe bets.

NFC Championship Game
Sunday, January 24th
6:40 pm EST

Minnesota Vikings - +3 ½ (-110) +160
New Orleans Saints -3 ½ (-110) -190
O/U – 52 ½

Score in the First 5 ½ Minutes:

The prop bets I like in this game are under the Team option. The first bet offered is whether a team is going to score in the first 5 ½ minutes (-125 for Yes and -105 for NO), and although these teams are likely to light it up, its not unusual for offenses to start a little slow in such big games.

When all that adrenaline is pumping through the veins, it usually benefits the defenses. The D-line is foaming at the mouth to get to that QB and guys are always putting a little extra into those first few hits. I’m going to go with the better NFL odds and say that there will not be a score in the first 5 minutes.

The Bet: No (-105)

Highest Scoring Quarter:

As I did in my Jets vs. Colts prop piece, I’m going to take a shot at the highest scoring quarter. Although I still believe the first quarter is one to stay away from, these teams won’t have the same issues getting their offenses rolling as in the AFC championship game. That being said, I still don’t think the 1st quarter is the bet here.

The way I see this game shaking out is one of these teams is going to take a lead early, and build on it. That team is going to be Minnesota, as I see them getting a few early stops and being able to get the ball in the endzone. I’ll go as far as saying that this game will be 17-7 going into half time.

That’s when I see the Saints exploding. They’re just too good to be held down all game, and as they did so many times this year, they’re going to put the pedal down and start lighting up the scoreboard. It’s a toss up between the third and fourth quarters, but why not go with the better odds. Take the third quarter, a big one for the Saints, as the prop bet here.

The Bet: 3rd Quarter (+300)
