NFL Betting Futures - Odds on Making the Playoffs
by Charles Jay

Here are the odds on making the playoffs as they are posted at BetUS Sportsbook, with a quick comment and a YEA or NAY on each of them, understanding that a NAY does not mean I don't think the team will make the playoffs, but that I wouldn't lay the price, and that a YEA may just indicate some value at that price:
Pittsburgh Steelers -400
-- They have the tools and the defense. I don’t know if you want to be betting against coach Mike Tomlin right now. YEA
New England Patriots -700
-- Anything can happen with Brady's comeback. Could the Pats get old overnight? I would be hesitant to lay this number. NAY
Dallas Cowboys -120
-- Let's see - they're in tough in their division, and they have a lack of wide receiver talent. Does Wade Phillips have one foot out the door? NAY

New York Giants -175
-- The Giants have their offensive problems at wide receiver and may not have the same kind of running game. They have lost the defensive coordinator too. Still, I've got some faith in them. YEA
Indianapolis Colts -190
-- Peyton Manning re-tools and re-works this offense, even without Tony Dungy around anymore. The assistants are back. Watch out for Anthony Gonzalez and draft pick Donald Brown. YEA
San Diego Chargers -600
-- The Chargers look like much the best in this division, but you have to remember they were 8-8 last season. If their divisional competition wasn't Denver, Oakland and Kansas City, I wouldn't lay this price at all. Then again, they wouldn't BE this price either. YEA
Baltimore Ravens -150
-- I don't know that the Ravens are good enough to win their division, and even though one can certainly appreciate John Harbaugh as a coach, there could be a logjam for that wild card spot. NAY
Philadelphia Eagles -175
-- Andy Reid has a history of success that's tough to argue with, and after coming so close to the Super Bowl, these guys loaded up. Latest arrival - Michael Vick. They'll figure out something to do with him. YEA
New Orleans Saints Ev
-- The Saints may have the most efficient quarterback in football (Drew Brees), but other areas need to be shored up. They're right in the running for the division title, but I would prefer to be getting a price. NAY
Minnesota Vikings -140
-- With the offensive and defensive line strength, and the running game, this team has more superlatives than anybody in their division. Brett Favre at QB, I guess so. YEA
Carolina Panthers +110
-- Jake Delhomme is a gamer. The 1-2 punch at running back is tough to stop. Steve Smith is a game-breaker. Julius Peppers will complain all the way to the Pro Bowl. YEA
Tennessee Titans -120
-- I almost don't care what they have and what they don't. I just have a lot of faith in Jeff Fisher as a head coach. YEA
Atlanta Falcons +110
-- I think Mike Smith is on a straight line toward better things, so even though the schedule gets tougher, so do they. Hello Tony Gonzalez! YEA
Green Bay Packers Ev
-- The Packers are a possibility, but as an even money shot I'd have to pass. Remember last year's record. NAY
Denver Broncos +250
-- Without Jay Cutler, this becomes a trying season on offense. If they could stop people, it would be a different story. NAY
Jacksonville Jaguars +160
-- I'd like to think the Jags could do it, as they may otherwise be on their way to L.A., but they won't overtake the Colts or Titans, so where does that leave them? NAY
Arizona Cardinals -120
-- Only the division they play makes me want to make this recommendation. Of course, if Chris Wells works out, they could go back to the Super Bowl. YEA
New York Jets +250
-- My opinion: Mark Sanchez will not have the same kind of success that Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco had last year. He won't have the same running game as Atlanta or the same defense as Baltimore. NAY
Miami Dolphins +275
-- A team that does the fundamental things as well as Miami deserves a look at this number, even if the schedule gets much stiffer. YEA
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +300
-- If someone like Jeff Garcia was still the quarterback, I might look at this differently. NAY
Buffalo Bills +275
-- I would maybe take a shot with the Bills at this price. They have gotten some bad breaks the last couple of years. Terrell Owens perks up the offense in his first year on board. This could happen. YEA
Chicago Bears -120
-- I wouldn't lay a price in this prop with the Bears until they got some receiving help for Jay Cutler. NAY
Washington Redskins +175
-- They're up against the Cowboys, Giants and Eagles. I don't think they could get this done with someone like Jason Campbell at quarterback. NAY
Seattle Seahawks +125
-- I'm not sure the price is so appetizing, but I can see some kind of turnaround for this franchise that was snake-bitten by injuries last season. If Arizona stumbles, that opens the door. YEA
Houston Texans +135
-- The Texans wind up finding out that going from 8-8 (where they've been the last two years) to 9-7 is a very big step. This division is very tough. NAY
San Francisco 49ers +150
-- I'm not altogether confident that the Niners have the personnel to carry out Mike Singletary's philosophy. Not yet anyway. NAY
Cleveland Browns +350
-- They're a potential disaster. NAY
Oakland Raiders +400
-- if I had any reasonable assurance that Jeff Garcia was going to be taking over a QB, I'd give it a second look. NAY
Cincinnati Bengals +300
-- The Bengals have brought some talent in. They're an interesting darkhorse proposition here. With them, it could be feast or famine. I'll take a shot. YEA
St Louis Rams +350
-- The Rams have at least a year or two before they can be seriously considered. NAY
Detroit Lions +600
-- Well, the Lions will be improved, and it would be funny if they rose from the ashes like Miami did last year, but that would be asking a lot of veteran Daunte Culpepper or rookie Matthew Stafford. NAY
Kansas City Chiefs +300
-- I think the Chiefs have a long way to go. So do they. NAY
