NFL XBOX 360 Sim - Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins
by Mike Rose

Week 11 of the NFL sports betting season comes to a close Sunday night when the (5-4, 3-6 ATS) Dallas Cowboys invade FedEx Field to crack skulls with the (6-3, 5-4 ATS) Washington Redskins in a crucial NFC East sports betting affair; kick-off is slated for 8:15 ET and can be seen on NBC.
The bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for the Cowboys who had lost two of their L/3 games with QB Tony Romo nursing the injured pinky of his throwing hand. HC Wade Phillips currently finds himself on the hot seat, but a win here would certainly quiet his critics for the time being.
Washington also finds itself off its bye week after dropping a 23-6 home decision to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night. That said; the redskins RB corps comes into this one very banged up, so the success of the Redskins offense lays solely in the arm of QB Jason Campbell whose coming off his worst performance of the year against the Steelers.
These teams already met once this season in Dallas back in Week 4, and the Redskins came away with the 26-24 outright victory as 10-point underdogs. This series has long been dominated by the underdog as its cashed NFL bettor’s tickets in 20 of the L/26 meetings. However, Dallas has covered the spread in 7 of its L/10 trips to the capitol city, and are long overdue for an ATS win considering they’ve dropped each of the L/4 meetings against the pointspread.
Weather: night, partly cloudy. Lows in the mid 30s.
1st Quarter:
QB Tony Romo’s first pass from scrimmage went for an eight-yard gain to WR Terrell Owens, and the Dallas offense looked to be back in good shape throughout the remainder of the drive. RB Marion Barber punished a number of Washington tacklers throughout his six carries, and Romo looked to have no ill effects completing 5 of 7 overall passes. The only bad news saw the drive end with a FG instead of a touchdown, but Dallas will take any kind of momentum it can get right now.
After Big D’s defense held the Redskins to a three and out, Romo and company proceeded to go right back down the field, but once again, saw the drive end with another K Nick Folk field goal.
The quarter ended with another Washington punt, and QB Jason Campbell and the offense looked to be butting heads with one another as the game went to commercial.

2nd QUARTER
Playing under the shadow of its own goal posts, Dallas set up shop from its own 11-yard line. QB Romo’s first pass went for a modest gain to TE Jason Witten, but his next pass got deflected and intercepted by S Chris Horton who returned it to Dallas’ 9-yard line. QB Jason Campbell’s immediately connected with WR Santana Moss for a TD leaving HC Phillips and his staff flustered after his club had to settle for a pair of FG’s.
The only fireworks that ensued over the next 10 minutes of play occurred when Dallas’ defense picked off QB Campbell at midfield, but Romo and company could do nothing with the solid field position. There were a total of seven punts in the 2nd quarter, and the Skins went into the locker room nursing a one-point lead at the break.
DALLAS 6 WASHINGTON 7
3rd Quarter
Washington took possession of the ball to start the second half, but they didn’t hold onto the pigskin very long. On 3rd and 7, man-beast DeMarcus Ware got a piece of Campbell to alter his throw, and it landed right in the hands pf LB Bradie James who returned it all the way back to the Redskins’ 27-yard line.
The offense went backwards on its next two plays: holding and then a false start. After Romo hit Owens for five yards, K Nick Folk was once again called upon to give the Cowboys the lead. However this time, he shanked it wide left, and the Skins continued their hold by the slimmest of margins.
QB Campbell came out like a man possessed on the Skins’ next possession looking to take advantage of the momentum Dallas just offered up. He hit WR Randle El twice for 14, TE Cooley for 17, and then TE Todd Yoder for a nine-yard score to increase their lead to eight as the quarter came to a close.
DALLAS 6 WASHINGTON 14
4TH QUARTER
With its backs against the wall, the Cowboys took to the field very conscious of the fact that they might be playing for their playoff lives on the next drive. That said; the offense got the ball to midfield, but had to give the ball back to Washington’s offense with nine minutes remaining.
It was Portis left, Portis right throughout Washington’s next possession, and they gave the ball back to Dallas with just six minutes left in the game.
Romo was a passing machine throughout the Cowboys next drive. He connected with WR Roy Williams for eight on the first play, and followed it up with a 1st down pass to WR Owens on the next. RB Barber churned out seven yards, and the Cowboys moved the chains again when Romo hit TE Witten in stride for a huge 22-yard gain.
“W squared” got the Cowboys all the way into the endzone when WR Williams got them down to the Redskins seven-yard line after hauling in a 17-yard reception, and Witten got them back on the board on the next play. Now down two with under a minute left in the game, the Cowboys were forced for two. They elected to go play-action, but Romo couldn’t find anyone open at first glance. After scrambling around, he saw what looked to be a wide-open WR Owens, but Washington’s defense converged quickly to bat the ball down.
Dallas hoped it would get its Hail Mary request answered much like the giants did earlier in the day, but to no avail. Washington pounced on the onside kick and the Redskins swept the Cowboys in the regular season for the first time since 2005.
