While many football betting fans may be wary about betting on preseason contests, the exhibition games leading up to the start of the regular season are often profitable for NFL wagering enthusiasts who brush up on the preseason happenings for each franchise.

Here’s what bettors need to know about the NFC just before the start on the 2008 preseason games.

Several teams have unsettled issues at quarterback heading into the 2008 preseason and regular season, starting with the Cincinnati Bengals – a team I believe could sink to even lower depths in 2008.

The Packers have idiotically told franchise legend Brett Favre that they are emphatically ready to move on and have handed the reins to former first round draft pick, Aaron Rodgers.

If Rodgers fails, Packers management will look like total buffoons, but if he succeeds, they’ll say they saw it coming all along. My guess is that Rodgers struggles mightily with defensive coordinators all over the league throw the kitchen sink at the first-time starter.

The young Jacksonville Jaguars where they are +6 underdogs on the road.

The Miami Dolphins on the road.

The Oakland Raiders.

While several teams have to sort things out at the quarterback position – and their issues make the preseason betting period a slippery slope for their respective teams – several other franchise are poised for what could be a breakout year in 2008, starting with the Arizona Cardinals.

If quarterback Matt Leinart can make a big jump in the desert this season and totally assume the starting quarterback position from veteran Kurt Warner, I think second-year head coach Ken Whisenhunt will make this team into a better-than-expected group that could compete for the playoffs.

I also like the revamped Minnesota Vikings, getting +3 points as road underdogs.

Two clubs I think could be could be headed toward mediocrity in 2008 are the Chicago Bears.

The Eagles have mediocrity written all over their franchise as they head into the 2008 season hoping, (praying) for several young players on both sides of the ball to make dramatic improvements as they step into newly minted starting positions of leadership roles, while Bears head coach Lovie Smith must be the only man on the face of the planet who can’t see that starting quarterback Rex Grossman is a backup at best in the NFL and has yet to find a suitable replacement, though fourth-year signal caller Kyle Orton should get a real opportunity to supplant Grossman as the team’s starting quarterback.

The 2008 Super Bowl XLII and beyond!
