The NHL resumed on Monday with the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche renewing pleasantries, Detroit walked away with the two points in that one just as I predicted last night (LINK TO Detroit vs. Colorado article). The victory pushed the defending Western Conference champions up to 70 points and more importantly, moves them into eighth place in the west, just one point ahead of Calgary.

Monday night was a nice little appetizer for NHL Betting fans, but Tuesday is the main course with 12 games on the schedule.

The action gets going at 7 PM EST, with five early games for you to sink your teeth into. In a showdown of original six teams that have been struggling this year, the Montreal Canadiens look to get the post Olympic break off on the right foot when they take on the Boston Bruins at from the TD Garden. The other east coast games slated to begin at 7 are: Carolina at Toronto; Chicago at N.Y. Islanders; Florida at Atlanta and Vancouver at Columbus.

Half an hour later, Canada’s golden boy Sidney Crosby and his Pittsburgh Penguins host the Buffalo Sabres. In case you haven’t heard, Crosby is coming off his gold-medal clinching goal in overtime on Sunday, cementing himself as both a national hero and a hockey legend. The goal came against Sabres goalie Ryan Miller, but he’s is not expected to play against the Pens as he played pretty much every minute of the Olympic tournament for the US.

Also on the 7:30 PM EST time slot sees the Philadelphia Flyers take on the Tampa Bay Lightning at the St. Pete Times Forum. This will be the fourth and final meeting between the teams and the Flyers have dominated this matchup this year.  The Flyers took the first three by a combined score of 15-5 so that’s a big reason they Broad Street Bullies are a -130 betting favourite over the Lightning (+110). The New York Rangers travel to face the Ottawa Senators in the final 7:30 start. Ottawa has been playing lights out of late and will look to keep up the hot streak against a Rangers team that have been floating around mediocrity all year.

At the 8 o'clock time slot, the Nashville Predators host the Edmonton Oilers who are looking to make some serious moves before the trade deadline at 3 PM on Wednesday. The Oilers are dead last in the league and need to start thinking about next season. They’ve already dealt away defenseman Denis Grebeshkov for a second-round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft. Grebeshkov had six goals and 19 points in 47 games this season, they received.

Los Angeles Kings face the Dallas Stars at 8:30 PM from the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Half an hour later, the Phoenix Coyotes look to continue their Cinderella season against the St. Louis Blues at Jobing.com Arena. The Coyotes are in fourth place in the Western Conference, which is about ten spots higher than anyone thought they’d be at this point of the season.

The last game of the night will see the New Jersey Devils take a trip out west to face the San Jose Sharks.   The Sharks lead the Western Conference while New Jersey sits second in the East, so this would have to be your game of the night. San Jose is going off as the -150 betting favourite with the Devils getting a profitable +130 against the NHL moneyline.
