Remember the sport of hockey?
Remember the sport of hockey?

Despite the fact that ESPN chose not to broadcast the World Hockey Championships, they are actually still ongoing in Austria. It’s curious as to why the world’s sports leader would not want to at least pick up the USA games. After all, there are plenty of great players in this tournament and it’s the first hockey of interest since last summer’s World Cup. What am I missing here?

Yes, the professional sport of hockey is in trouble and it’s pretty much alienated the little American fans it had left. But, the World Hockey Championships are about representing your country and about playing for the passion of the sport. Players aren’t commanding salaries during this tournament.

At any rate, the play in these championships has been spotty at best. But, there have been some moments of interest. Canada’s Rick Nash of the Columbus Bluejackets put his hands on an official and didn’t get suspended, Team USA upset Sweden but only tied Ukraine, and Germany was embarrassingly bounced to the relegation round by Denmark of all countries!

It’s really too bad that Americans aren’t able to view these games, as the U.S. team is fun to watch. Other than Mike Modano and Doug Weight, the United States squad is comprised of younger players, all eager to restore their country to the top of the hockey world. But according to ESPN; you don’t care and aren’t interested.
