Dear Matthew, I read your article entitled "Who will win NHL Hardware." Considering that before the season even started, both ESPN and SI ranked the NY Rangers in DEAD LAST in the entire National Hockey League, don't you think Tom Renney has a little better shot to take the Jack Adams (for coach-of-the-year) than you have given him?

Dear Michael,  That's a very fair question. Yes, the Rangers have exceeded expectations this season. However, so have many other teams in the league. I strongly believe that Carolina, which has more points than New York, and Buffalo, which is right around the Rangers in the standings are bigger stories.   Think about it. Renney also was fortunate to havea rookie goaltender stand on his head, the regeneration of Jagr as a scorer and several key pickups. Meanwhile, Buffalo was virtually the same team, while Carolina was an after thought. Renney has done an amazing job, but I believe the other two coaches have a better chance.
