Red Wings vs. Capitals Highlights the Tuesday Night NHL Schedule
by Ian James

NHL Tuesday Preview
Tuesday's NHL betting schedule has eight games to choose from including a few intriguing matchups between some of hockey's most exciting teams.
Detroit Red Wings at Washington Capitals
In the dead of winter, the Capitals are red hot. Washington has won six of its last seven games thanks to an offensive burst. The Washington Capitals have averaged more than five goals per game over those seven games including scoring five goals in a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. They've played over the NHL betting totals in their last six games.
Captain Alexander Ovechkin netted a goal on a penalty shot and an assist, giving the scoring dynamo 14 points in the past six games. Goaltender Jose Theodore has also performed well during this streak. He stopped 30 of 33 shots against the Flyers and has allowed just over a goal a game in his last three starts.
Detroit is coming off back-to-back shootout losses, most recently a 4-3 defeat to the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. The Red Wings will have a chance to catch their breath before Tuesday's game. Detroit didn't have a break before facing Chicago and was playing its third game in four nights.
The Detroit Red Wings took the lone meeting with the Capitals this season, earning a 3-2 win at home back in October. Goaltender Chris Osgood turned away 22 of the 24 shots faced. Osgood has played the role of backup in recent games, giving way to Jimmy Howard. Howard has lost three of his past four appearances, giving up six goals on 97 total shots.

Buffalo Sabres at Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim turned up the offensive intensity with two of its biggest stars on the sidelines. Forwards Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu both suffered recent injuries and will be out of the lineup until February. Without those two weapons, the Ducks turned to Bobby Ryan in a 5-4 win over the Calgary Flames on Sunday. Ryan scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period, giving Anaheim its sixth win in the past seven games.
Coach Randy Carlyle has juggled his lineup due to the recent rash of injuries. The Anaheim Ducks' power play has maintained its punch. Against the Flames, they netted their opening goal with the man advantage and have scored at least one power-play goal in each of the past three victories.
The Sabres will be coming off a game against the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday before making the trip to California. Buffalo is 13-6-1 away from home and split the first two games of its current seven-game road swing. The Sabres fell short in a 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Islanders on Saturday in which both teams went deep into their rosters for the shootout.
Goaltender Ryan Miller had a six-game winning streak snapped with the loss to New York. He allowed just two goals on 38 shots but needed more from his offense on the scoreboard. Buffalo has netted just two goals in each of its past two games heading into Monday. On the road this year, the Buffalo Sabres have scored only 49 goals but have played in opposing rinks just 20 times – the fewest road games among NHL teams.
