For years, the Ottawa Senators have been a contender for the Stanley Cup. However, each season invariably ends in disappointment, as the Sens have not yet tasted champagne from Lord Stanley’s mug.
However, this year’s team is different. The 2005-06 edition of the Ottawa Senators is tougher, edgier, grittier, and more determined. Their play to open this season (4-0 start) has been nothing short of impressive. Using a combination of speed, skill and experience, the Sens are rolling over the competition in short order.
During the longest offseason in NHL history, Ottawa went out and signed goaltender Dominick Hasek away from Detroit. The veteran has brought star power in goal, something the franchise has never had (sorry Don Beaupre fans). In addition, they acquired Dany Heatley from Atlanta in exchange for Marian Hossa. Heatley brings an “in your face” game, filled with skill and confidence.
The Senators have even continued their longstanding tradition of churning out great rookies with Brandon Bochenski. This is a squad that is well-rounded, hungry and has great depth. Ottawa is definitely an early favorite to win the title and bettors should take advantage of the still favorable odds right now. You do not want to wait until they are running away with the division before jumping on them to win the cup.
Grab Ottawa right now in the futures/props section. This was a solid team made even better.
