Hockey Betting - Chicago Blackhawks at Los Angeles Kings

Talk about an up and down week for the Chicago Blackhawks. They were featured on ESPN and the Jay Leno show, but have also dropped three straight and have lost two of their top defenseman. So, I guess it’s been mostly down.

The first defenseman to go down was Brian Campbell, who was driven into the end boards from behind by Washington star Alex Ovechkin. That occurred in a 4-3 overtime defeat Sunday, where they gave up a 3-0 lead. The three-time All-Star had played 388 consecutive regular-season games, but will be out for the year as he suffered a broken collarbone and rib on the play. Ovechkin received a two-game suspension on the play, which is little consolation for Chicago.

The latest victim of a dirty check came on Wednesday night when Brent Seabrook took a shot to the head from former teammate James Wisniewski in the second period of a 4-2 loss to Anaheim. Seabrook has a history of head problems as he missed two games earlier this season with concussion-like symptoms. He skated off the ice with help and did not return and his availability for tonight’s game is unknown. One thing we do know is that Blackhawks head coach, Joel Quenneville is not happy.

"If you hit a guy without the puck, you could kill a guy," said Quenneville. "It's the most dangerous hit in the history of the game. And (Wisniewski) tried to hurt him."

I guess that’s what happens when you’re one of the top teams in the NHL and your faces are plastered all over the TV, you get teams gunning for you. Well, Chicago has gotten that message loud and clear and tonight they’ll be looking to snap a three-game losing streak against a very good Los Angeles Kings team from the Staples Center tonight.

Heading into tonight’s action, the Blackhawks sit just two points behind the San Jose Sharks for the top seed in the Western Conference. The Sharks will have their hands full with a very good Vancouver Canuck team tonight in the other great game in the Western Conference tonight. It will be interesting to see which team steps up and wins a tough road game to put their mark on the top spot in the conference.

Here are some betting trends for the Blackhaws/Kings game tonight:

  • Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
  • Home team is 7-0 in the last 7 meetings.
  • Over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Los Angeles.
  • Blackhawks are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
  • Favorite is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
  • Blackhawks are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Los Angeles.

The Kings are also playing on the heels of a tough loss. They dropped the opener of a four-game home stand on Sunday to Nashville, losing 3-2 to a Predators team that has been one of the hottest in the Western Conference.

With the Blackhawks having all kinds of emotional motivation heading into this one, look for them to pull out a big road win against the Kings. Take Chicago at even money tonight.
