The National Hockey League rolls on with some holiday treats for bettors. We’ve been able to size up more than our share of trends and great advice. The bottom line is that we’re making money on the sport, so who cares how popular it is or what the ratings are; you love green, don’t you?
No swimming in the Atlantic
All five teams in the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic division are not playing especially well right now. We know that Philadelphia is awful, but every other team has been .500 or worse over their last 10 games. Simply put, it’s a crapshoot to bet on these clubs right now, so stay away for the next few days.
Bears with bite
Look out people, the Boston Bruins have been on fire as of late, winning six of their last ten. I know, it doesn’t sound like being on fire, but one of those losses came in overtime after a bad line change. We think they’ll still be getting favorable odds on the money line against quality opponents and are a good bet these days.
Hope back on the Buffalo bandwagon
After a couple of convincing victories lately, we are now proclaiming the Buffalo Sabres to be a very strong bet once again. They had a lull in their goal-scoring abilities, but have picked it back up. Buffalo is scoring well once more, and that means the over, the goal line and the money line are all in play this week for their games. Yes, you have to lay some money with these beasts of the east, but it’s well worth it.
Tricky Northwest
Every team in the Northwest division is quite capable of finishing atop amongst those teams. We recently saw the Calgary Flames, a very good home team, lose to Vancouver, a sub par road team, in Alberta! This tells us to stay the heck away from these squads when they play each other, at least for a few weeks, until we can see a new pattern develop. We can’t make heads or tails of these inter-divisional games, so stay away from them altogether.
Star down
Yes, the Dallas Stars are getting Mike Modano back, their longtime offensive leader. However, they just lost Brendan Morrow for a lengthy period, arguably their best all round player. Granted, Dallas won in Colorado Wednesday without him, but we see this team having problems over the long run of Morrow’s absence. In other words, when it makes sense, go against the Stars in the next few games.
