Two clubs that are very much in the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference go head to head Wednesday night. The Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins are separated by just two points, with Boston currently holding onto the third spot in the Conference with Montreal back in 6 th thanks to the Bruins holding the Division lead. Montreal can actually take that division lead with a win tonight, and considering they’ve won all three games so far this year and four straight in Boston, that’s a very real possibility.
Montreal Canadiens (30-19-5) vs. Boston Bruins (30-16-7)
Wednesday, February 9 th – 7 PM ET
TV: NESN (HD), RDS (HD), TSN (HD)
In somewhat of a surprising move, the Bruins are sitting their second overall pick from 2010, Tyler Seguin. Seguin hasn’t exactly been tearing it up of late, notching just one goal in his last 11 games, and considering they’ve got a few guys called up that they want to have a look at, the move isn’t all that surprising. It may actually turn out to be a positive for the kid, as no doubt he will be disappointed, but that disappointment usually turns to anger and anger usually translates to better play on the ice.
NHL Betting Line:
Montreal Canadiens +1 ½ (-210) ML (+145)
Boston Bruins -1 ½ (+170) ML (-165)
Both these clubs are playing pretty solid hockey at the moment. Montreal has won three of their last four while the Bruins have managed the same mark over that span, but you know Boston has had this game circled all week. With both clubs neck and neck in the Northeast Division, Boston is going to want to put an end to the Habs winning streak, especially in their building.
Here are some NHL Betting Trends for this matchup:
- Under is 2-0-2 in the last 4 meetings in Boston.
- Canadiens are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Boston.
- Canadiens are 36-17 in the last 53 meetings.
- Underdog is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings.
The Habs seem like the smarter bet here considering what they’ve done in Boston lately, but I just can’t see the Bruins losing again at home to Montreal. Tim Thomas is playing lights out, as he has been doing all year, leading the league in both Save Percentage at .945 as well as GAA at 1.80. Carey Price has been dynamite this year as well, hence the total being set at 5, but take the Bruins netminder to outplay Price and lead his Bruins to a much-needed win over their division rivals.
NHL Betting Pick: Boston (-165)
