The Rangers. But Carolina is playing confused lately after adding Anson Carter to the mix as Cory Stillman returned from injury.
Lean towards the Penguins in this matchup because they are one of the most explosive offenses in the league. Couple that with the fact that the Canes are barely above .500 at home (16-13-4) and you have a disastrous kick-off to Carolina’s weekend. The Hurricanes play smart and disciplined, but they have a terrible power play unit that ranks in the bottom three of the NHL.
Do not expect any crazy outbursts from Carter or Stillman in this game. Both are similar role-players in the Carolina offense, but neither has found their niche on the roster yet. Cam Ward was a clutch playoff goaltender last year, but this year he has been wavering behind a weak defense.
Take the safe pick here as the Penguins dominating road scoring (ranked second in the league) bury the Hurricanes in their own building. The Hurricanes, mysteriously, were favored to win in the opening line.
