The Buffalo Sabres, who hold the best defense in the league with just 1.0 goal against per game. The problem for Buffalo, is that they’re also ranked 30th in goals for with just 1.3 goals per game.
The NHL betting trends are tight in this one. Buffalo is 5-1 SU in their last 6 games, and are playing at home, but Detroit simply owns Buffalo. The Wings are 4-1 SU in their last 5 road games in Buffalo and can definitely back your investment tonight with a nice win over Buffalo to erase the losses in Helsinki.
COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS (-140) over Calgary Flames (+120)
The Jackets don’t have the same firepower but they are a resilient home team that has gone 6-1 SU in their last 7 hosting of the Flames. Columbus is coming off three-days rest after a decisive 2-0 win over Phoenix. They’ll control the puck and send the Flames out of Columbus with another black eye in the loss column.
Colorado Avalanche (+120) over TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS (-140)
Craig Anderson continues to backstop the Colorado Avalanche to victory with just. 2.40 goals against. He’s doing much better than the bag of crap that the Leafs have in net. Toronto gives up 4.80 goals per game and Jonas Gustavsson isn’t looking like the premier netminder he was supposed to be. Maybe “best goalie not in the NHL” should come with a footnote that says “probably a reason he’s in the NHL yet”.
The Leafs signed about 153 defensemen this summer, and it still hasn’t made their team any tougher. In fact, all it’s done is made this team way dumber. The Leafs drag around the worst penalty-killing unit in the league with 57.9 percent penalties killed. That’s a big problem when guys like Komisarek can’t keep themselves out of the penalty box.
