The top two teams in the East will do battle on Saturday night as the Minnesota Wild the night before. Can the Devils capitalize and gain some ground in the standings?
New Jersey has been a strong road team as of late, going 6-1 SU in their last seven away from home. Overall, they are 7-2-1 in their last nine when playing Buffalo. The Devils were able to contain the high-flying Penguins in a 4-3 victory on the road on Thursday. Well-rested and ready to do it again, they should be able to control a battered Sabres squad.
The Sabres will go to war with the Wild on Friday night, and will then have to turn around and fight the Devils, who can be a nasty team to play any day of the week. With solid goaltending from Martin Brodeur and a well-rested line-up, the Devils should be able to steal a game from the Sabres at home.
Simply put, New Jersey is a disciplined and defensively minded juggernaut, that is extremely tough to score on. The Sabres chances will be few, and their tanks will be running on empty despite a Saturday night crow at HSBC Arena.
