In what could very well be a playoff preview, the Canucks visit the Shark Tank tonight.
Goalie Roberto Luongo has been standing on his head for the Canucks, leading the team to four straight decisive victories. Despite this, the Canucks have been disappointing in special teams play. They went 3/15 on the power-play and 13/17 on the penalty-kill. They are a good five-on-five team, but they will have to improve on their special teams to have a chance against the heady Sharks.
In the place of regular starter Vesa Toskala, goalie Evgeni Nabokov has been dominant in the past two games. The Sharks have not been a strong home team lately; they were absolutely abysmal throughout February. With back-to-back shutouts over strong Western teams, the Sharks are coming together at the right moment. They still rank 12th in overall scoring and 6th in overall defense.
This is going to be a must-tune-in game for hockey fans, as two of the hotter teams clash in the Tank tonight. Look for San Jose to use their size to their advantage as Joe Thornton and Bill Guerin get comfy in front of the net. Vancouver must be stronger on the power-play and allow Sami Salo to lower the boom as Brent Sopel gets acquainted to a new blueprint.
The Sharks are hard to bet against after posting road shutouts. Despite the Canucks strong play as of late, the safe sports bet is on tonight’s favorite – the San Jose Sharks.
