Bookie: Thanks for writing Bill. The moneyline is a bet where the result is determined solely by the result of the game. The margin is not important as in pointspread bets. Instead of points, what is adusted is the money, hence "moneyline."
Take this week's Divisional Play-Off game between the Jets and Steelers. The Jets are listed at +335 and the Steelers at -425. When reading moneylines the favorite's number has a minus, and the underdog ("dog") has a plus. Here, of course, the Steelers are a heavy favorite. So you would have to be $425 to win $100 if you wanted to bet on the Steelers to win the game. If you wanted to bet on the Jets to pull the upset you would get $335 for every $100 bet.
