Darn right they should get their money back!

While Kellen Winslow Jr. rehabs from his injuries suffered in an asinine motorcycle incident, the Cleveland Browns are plotting their next move in regards to the second-year player. Winslow Jr. has a hefty contract and is due more bonus money on July 15th. But, since his injuries occurred during a non-football activity, the Browns have the right to rescind their bonus agreement with the immature tight end.

You’d think the son of a hall-of-famer would be more responsible about his career. His father was a tremendous and well loved receiver with the San Diego Chargers for many years. Winslow Jr. didn’t play past week 2 last season, when he broke his leg trying to recover an onside kick. Wouldn’t a guy who was still suffering ill affects from last season’s injury know not to engage in risky off-season activities? You would have thought. It’s bad enough the Browns are coming off a brutal season and are just trying to claw their way back to respectability. In a league where cap numbers are everything- losing a player for a second straight season without very much productivity is killer.

Cleveland is also seeking in the range of $2-$3 million back from Winslow, as the young player clearly violated the conditions of their contract. However, coach Romeo Crennel says that the team is still committed in keeping Winslow in their future plans. It remains to be seen how Winslow and their agents will react when the money rug is pulled out from under them. Will the two sides be able to patch things up adequately for Winslow to grow with the Browns? It’s too early to say. But one thing’s for certain: Kellen Winslow Jr. has cost his team a ton of money with no return and Cleveland is within their right to be compensated accordingly.
