What's a legend to do?

Now that Mike Tyson has declared his boxing career over, what will the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world do for a living? It’s not like the guy has a degree from NYU to fall back on. While Iron Mike has some good qualities, we’re just not too sure what they are. It’s not his fault. In fact, Tyson has been the media’s veritable punching bag (no pun intended) for years, without them ever trumpeting anything good about him. They bated, provoked and lead Mike onto subjects and issues where his lack of judgment was bound to get him into trouble.

Yes, he went to jail, got into fights outside of the ring and even acknowledged hitting an ex-wife. But, how many people have been on his side in his life? He’s been poked, prodded and pulled in six different directions by the countless money whores who have “managed, consulted and guided” him over the last couple of decades.

Let’s face it. The guy was groomed and primed to fight. His whole life, people sought to harness and encourage his aggressiveness. Mike was told it was ok to be angry, as anger in the ring was good. But, what Tyson wasn’t told was how to better deal with his anger outside the squared circle. No one cared enough to advise him on how to be a better man. As long as Iron Mike was grabbing headlines and selling tickets; all of the money whores were happy.

Look, we do not want to make excuses for Mike’s negative and destructive behavior over the years. He is still a human being and must be accountable for his actions. However, he has said on many occasions that he does not have any friends, that he feels alone in this world. If that’s the case, then who was he supposed to turn to when things were tough and he didn’t know how to handle them? Not everyone would have reacted the way Mike Tyson did and still does outside of the ring. But, let’s cut the man some slack and let him live his life without having a mic shoved in his face.
