American Idol Betting – And then there were 13….

Even though it’s March and BetUS Sportsbook, another tournament has come full circle in the form of a glorified karaoke contest otherwise known as American Idol.  We made a killing entertainment wagering on Idol just a short year ago, and expect to do the same if not better this time around. With the inaugural battle of the top 13 about to take place on Tuesday night, the following gives you a brief description of the remaining contestants from the heavily favored to the most rabid of underdogs. Without further ado, say hello to the final 13….

  1. Adam Lambert 26 Los Angeles, CA (+200) – Very similar in looks to last year’s winner David Cook who also looks to win this thing as the final 13’s male rocker. The kids got pipes, and he electrified both the judges and the audience in all his performances. At +200, Mr. Lambert is the odds on favorite at BetUS Sportsbook to win it all.
  2. Danny Gokey 28 Milwaukee, WI (+300) – This kid immediately caught my eye when he first took the stage. Besides the fact that he’s a widower and will grab a number of votes because of it, the kid can flat out sing and never once looked as if the pressure got too him in any of his performances. BetUS oddsmakers caught onto this as well since he’s currently listed at +300 to win it all. He’s my selection to outlast the rest of the guys.
  3. Lil Rounds 24 Memphis, TN (+400) – The judges gushed over this 23-year old every time she took the stage; with good reason. She likens herself to Mary J. Blige, but give her anything jazzy or R&B, and you’re certain to appreciate the results. She’s the best of the female crop, and I recommend buying as much of her as you can at +400 right now!
  4. Matt Giraud 23 Kalamazoo, MI (+750) – The Justin Timberlake-like Giraud didn’t make it through in the first three elimination shows, but the judges felt he did enough to warrant a second chance. He boasts a bluesy voice and has the look that most if not all teeny boppers will fall in love with. He’ll most definitely make a deep run into this competition, but the +750 he’s offering isn’t attractive enough to take a chance with him just yet. He could be a good weekly investment as the season moves along.
  5. Anoop Desai 21 Chapel Hill, NC (+1000) – Anoop made no bones of throwing his love for the powder blue on stage, but he lacks the talent his beloved college basketball team possesses. I don’t see him making as deep a run in this tournament as his Tar Heels will in the upcoming “Big Dance”, but crazier things have happened before. Sanjaya Malakar shocked us all by lasting more than a month back in Season 6.
  6. Allison Iraheta 16 Los Angeles, CA (+1000) – The other youngster in the competition, Allison shined in the second elimination round with her rendition of Heart’s “Alone”. Look for her to continue to rock out with power ballads for as long as she lasts, but don’t look for it to be that long. I have her ranked as the 4th strongest female…
  7. Alexis Grace 21 Memphis, TN (+1400) – Don’t let Alexis’ small package fool you; the girl can howl. On a night where not many stood out in the first elimination, Alexis was second best only behind what I consider to be the competition favorite, Danny Gokey. She’ll reel in some cash for us in at least one if not two weekly elimination bets!
  8. Megan Corkery 22 Sandy, UT (+1500) – The coolest thing about Megan might just be the sleeve tattoo she sports on her right arm. She too managed to get into the final 13 after the judges gave her the starting nod. I’m not sold on her whatsoever, and liken her to a more confident Kristy Lee Cook from last season.
  9. Jasmine Murray 16 Starkville, MS (+2000) - One of the youngest contestants in the competition, Jasmine is certainly a looker but also boasts a fantastic wide ranged voice. In other words, she’s Melinda Doolittle with the looks and that can bode very well for her down the road considering Melinda made it to the final 3 of Season 6.
  10. Scott Macintyre 23 Scottsdale, AZ (+2000) – No he’s not related to former New Kids on the Block member Joe Macintyre, but he is American Idol’s feel good story of the season. Scott is almost 100% blind, but that hasn’t stopped him from getting this far. He’s got talent and resolve that no other contestant has portrayed in the previous seven seasons. I look forward to seeing this kid perform in the coming weeks and wouldn’t be at all shocked if he made a serious run at the title.
  11. Kris Allen 23 Conway, AZ (+3000) – In a cast of finalists that has eight guys and only five girls, Kris certainly didn’t stand out. His rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” was decent, but not good enough to get him through to the Final 13 in the final elimination. Instead, the judges gave him the golden ticket and he vowed to make a lasting impression; we’ll see…
  12. Michael Sarver 27 Jasper, TX (+3500) – One of the competition’s long shots, Michael shockingly got into the top 13 in the first elimination round. While the kid’s as nice as they come, I just don’t see him making a deep run in this competition.
  13. Jorge Nunez 20 Carolina, Puerto Rico (+3500) – You either like this guy or you flat out can’t stand him. BetUS seems to be of the latter after tagging him a lofty +3500 underdog to make any noise in this competition.

Be sure to check back in the BetUS Locker room for what I have to say after Tuesday night’s Final 13 telecast concludes….
