LOOKING AT FLORIDA SPORTS PROPS
Two Part Series (Part 2)
Let's try some of these on for size:
1st to Win Manager-Coach of Year Award
Stan Van Gundy +200
Joe Maddon +225
Tony Sparano +300
Raheem Morris +300
Rich Tocchet +450
Jack Del Rio +700
Erik Spoelstra +1000
Peter DeBoar +1000
Fredi Gonzalez +1200
When you evaluate this prop, you have to look at what might happen over the next season or two. Stan Van Gundy (+200 at BetUS) is not a candidate as far as I'm concerned, because how much more can he do after winning 59 games in the regular season last season? Joe Maddon (+225 at betUS) won the AL Manager of the Year last season, and unless his team has a surge and wins the division, which is not likely, he will have regressed to a certain extent. Tony Sporano (+300 at BetUS) should have won the NFL award last season, but after winning 11 games, what would he have to do to win something this year? I see him in a difficult position to do that. Raheem Morris (+300 at BetUS) takes over a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that was 9-7, and with uncertainty at the quarterback position, a slide is perfectly conceivable.
My guy here is FREDI GONZALEZ (+1200 at BetUS), who for some reason happens to be the longshot. Let me tell you something - if the Marlins win the NL East or get a wild card spot, Gonzalez, who won 84 games last season, is going to get serious consideration. His only competition might be from Bruce Bochy of San Francisco and Jim Tracy of Colorado, if both of those teams are right in the wild card picture till the end.
Total Rushing yards by Maurice Jones-Drew
Over 1049 -120
Under 1049 -120
As the Jaguars have released Fred Taylor, don't have a lot of depth at running back (Chauncey Washington, a guy with little experience, is the backup), and should have a healthier offensive line, look for Jones-Drew to get the ball quite often. There is no "committee" here, so he is almost certain to top his 824 yards from last year, and with no one to share the load with, I am way OVER 1049 at -120 in the BetUS odds.
Who will be the Buccaneers starting QB
Byron Leftwich -120
Luke McCown -110
Josh Freeman +300
The Buccaneers do not want to rush Josh Freeman (+300 at BetUS), the first-round draft choice, into the lineup, which was the reason they have a couple of veterans on board. If Raheem Morris wants to get fired a little earlier than expected, he'll start Luke McCown (-110 at BetUS), who has never experienced any level of success in the NFL (9 TD's, 10 INT's in his career). At least BYRON LEFTWICH (-120 at BetUS) has some beneficial experience as a starter, and though he's not nearly as mobile as McCown, he has a better and more accurate arm. He's also had some experience with winning, which will not happen with McCown.
