Entertainment Props - Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is Back!

The 4th of July is literally upon us and the BetUS online sportsbook will be there to offer an exciting wagering opportunity on the yearly Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

The prop, located through the Entertainment link in the sportsbook, is sure to get the most entertainment prop betting action this weekend, but gamblers would be amiss if they were to believe that it was the only prop worthy of a bet in the Entertainment section of the sportsbook.

What do Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson, Manny Ramirez, Joe Torre, LeBron James and Mark Sanchez have in common? If you said they’re sport stars, you aren’t exactly wrong but if you said that they are entertainers, then you’d be exactly right!

Let’s take a look at some of the more interesting Entertainment wagers in the entertainment section of the BetUS online sportsbook and then get to the pick for the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest!

Boston Sports Specials

The best wagering prop I see available in this category is on which Boston team will win a championship first. Here are the odds:

Boston Red Sox +125

New England Patriots +150

Boston Celtics +225

Boston Bruins +500

Okay, first the Bruins. They had their best shot this past season and I don’t see them getting back to that level anytime soon. Also, the Stanley Cup is widely believed to be the toughest championship to win in sports so gamblers can cut them out right away. Now, the Patriots are actually an underlay at +150 because the AFC and NFC are going to be tough in the NFL this year. They’re a longer shot than +150. The Celtics are too old to deal with both Orlando and Cleveland in 2009-2010. So, that leaves the Red Sox at +125. Do I believe they win in 2009? Not really. But I do believe that they win in maybe 2010 or 2011, way before the Patriots or Celtics take home another championship.

California Sports Specials

The best wagering prop I see available in this category is which California sports team manager is going to be fired first.

Man, there are a lot of guys to choose from Bud Black with the San Diego Padres is the likeliest candidate which is why he’s going off at odds of +225, but I can’t get past Tom Cable in Oakland. Al Davis is known for being a complete blowhard when it comes to his coaches. Cable probably isn’t the right guy for the job anyhow and the odds are stellar. Cable to blow it in Raider Nation is what I say at the juicy odds of +400.

NY NJ Sports Specials

Ah, the wonderful states of New York and New Jersey! The BetUS odds makers probably had a heated discussion regarding which props to include in this category. The best I see is on which New York Team is likely to first win a championship.

Forget the Knicks, forget the Rangers, forget the Sabres, Nets, Bills, Jets and Islanders. The bet comes down to:

New York Yankees +250

New York Giants +300

Better odds on the Giants than the Yankees? Really? The Yankees play in one of the toughest division in organized sports, the A.L. East in Major League Baseball. Four teams in that division, New York, Boston, Tampa Bay and Toronto, have a shot at winning the division. So, at odds of +250 to win a championship before what I consider one of the top two teams in the NFL this year is mind boggling.

I’m all over the Giants to win the Super Bowl at +1100 in the sportsbook. So, I’m definitely siding with them in this wager.

Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

It’s here! East vs. West! Mind-blowing stuff in your mouth technique versus the dunk and swallow!

It’s the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest pitting two of the best professional eaters in the world against each other at Coney Island in New York City!

The battle is between Joey “Jaws” Chestnut and Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi which is one of the reasons the sportsbook is only a wager on the total number of hot dogs consumed by the winner:

Over 62 ½ -120

Under 62 ½ -120

Which wager should provide profits? Under, my friends. Definitely go under. Only once has the total gone over 59 and that was in 2007 when Jaws swallowed 66 and Tsunami swallowed 60. Before that, Tsunami had won 6 straight contests in a row but never ate more than 54 dogs.

I just don’t see it happening. Let’s say that both fellas improve by hitting the 60 mark but neither gets to 63. Us BetUS fans bet the under and everybody wins!
