American Idol Betting – Ladies Night
by Mike Rose

The ladies took the stage on their normal time slot this week, and for the most part, the show had its moments. Thursday is the most important elimination of the American idol betting season as the final six ladies will all be a part of the summer tour. Tuesday night’s show really separated the wheat from the chaff in my book, and the following is how I see Thursday night’s show playing out.
Safe:
Crystal Bowersox (+400) – Though her take on Tracy Chapman’s “Gimme One Reason” didn’t blow me away, I think it had more to do with the fact that I’m sick and tired of that song after hearing it get overplayed on the radio for the better part of the last 13 years. Still, she’s the front runner in this competition and the one to beat according to Simon.
Siobhan Magnus (+500) – I was simply blown away by this quirky glass blower a week ago, but she really took a step back in my book this time around. For one, she looked ridiculous. Whoever put that get-up together must be shown the door, as it did her no justice. Second, she sang another really old song. Though it was better than average, Siobhan really needs to get current and I’m not sure she’ll be allowed to do so with the theme weeks approaching. I’m betting she’ll do her best to do so however.
Didi Benami (+2000) – Once again, Didi was in tears at the end of her performance, but this time, they were tears of joy. In case you missed last week’s show, Benami had to really hold the tears back after the judges ripped her apart. However, she took the judges advice and put forth what Simon called “the best performance of the night” and then categorized her entire act as a “wow” moment. With her finding her niche in this America Idol competition, the original ladies favorite might just be a player once again.
On the Bubble:
Paige Miles (+2500) – I questioned the oddsmakers move in reducing Paige’s value at the open this week, and after seeing her flat out blow it on Tuesday night, I’m convinced she’ll be packing her bags and heading home. We saw nada, zip, zilch of her throughout Hollywood Week, and what we’ve seen of her these L/3 weeks has me counting the hours till Thursday’s elimination show. All we’ve heard from the judges is how powerful her voice is; I’m done waiting!

Katie Stevens (+1400) – Once again, Katie struggled with her performance on Tuesday night and its clearly evident she just doesn’t have the goods to compete in this competition. It was very fitting for her to cover Kelly Clarkson’s “Break Away” since I believe she’ll more than likely join Paige as they both “Break Away” from the rest of the Season 9 cast.
Lacey Brown (+5000) – Lacey‘s American Idol value skyrocketed this past week as she went from +2500 to +5000 at the close. Simon’s of the belief that she has the full package in terms of actually performing, but her singing isn’t the greatest. Though her Brandy Carlisle cover of “The Story” was by far her best performance and one to be proud of, she might have fallen too far behind the pack the previous two weeks and get voted off. I’m hoping not though, as I believe she offers more than either Miles or Stevens.
Katelyn Epperly (+1600) – Katelyn made a lasting impression last week that saw her value get decreased at the open of American Idol betting. Unfortunately, she took a step backwards this week after going through the motions of her Carole King cover. Still, this youngster has a bubbly personality and the looks the voting public smiles upon. I look for her to crack the Top 12.
Lilly Scott (+1200) – There’s just something about Lilly’s voice that gets me. I know some people aren’t a fan of hers whatsoever, but I’m digging this eclectic 20-year old. Her Patsy Kline take was by no means brilliant, but Ellen, Randy, and Kara all loved it. The only thing that has me nervous about her is the fact that Simon has stated in the past how he doesn’t see star power and that her performance might have been a bit risky. I really hope she makes the final cut.
If weekly elimination odds were posted this week, I’d max bet Miles to go. She’s done absolutely nothing to impress me, and has done the exact opposite with the judge’s advice the L/3 weeks. She just doesn’t get it. As for her partner in crime to get the boot, I’m hoping its Stevens, but wouldn’t be shocked if it was either Epperly, or Brown. I would be highly disappointed if Scott got the boot.
