American Idol Betting – State of the Idol Address

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

We knocked it way out of the park in last week’s American Idol betting elimination show as both of our proposed max bets, Haeley Vaughn and Jermaine Sellers, were voted off as predicted. John Park also exited stage left along with Michelle Delamor. I felt Michelle deserved at least one more shot, but knew she didn’t have the gusto to actually win this competition.

None of the contestants that were given pink slips had much of a chance in the eyes of BetUS.com oddsmakers anyway. Vaughn went off the board at 80/1, while both Park and Sellers closed at 40/1. The only one with a semi realistic shot was Delamor who stood a +1800 choice at the closing of AI Season 9 odds last week.

A major shakeup went down at the open of American Idol betting odds exactly as expected this week.

Andrew Garcia is no longer the front runner in this competition after finding himself in the bottom two last Thursday. His odds doubled in value this week going from a +350 to +700 choice. It’s time for the AI Season 9’s original favorite to blow us away like he did throughout Hollywood Week.

A pair of contestants now stand above the rest in the forms of Crystal Bowersox and Casey James. The ladies favorite jumped from a +550 underdog to a +400 choice this week, while the kid from Kool went from +600 to +400. In terms of the overall edge between these two, I have to go with Bowersox.

Hot on their tails are my favorites in both the male and female draws. Lee DeWyze saw his value plummet from +1200 at last week’s close to +500 at round three’s open. As for Siobhan Magnus, she howled her way from a +800 pup to a +500 position this week. With Lee’s inability to look comfortable on stage and Siobhan’s quirky yet confident nature, I have to lean to the ladies in this match-up as well.

With the females dropping from -200 to -165 to win it all this week, I recommend taking a position here to allow for hedging opportunities down the road.

Some other movers and shakers saw Didi Benami balloon to +2000 from +1000 a week ago, while Lilly Scott lost some value jumping from +2000 to +1200. Still a huge fan of Scott, but I’m not sure her act will be able to garner enough fans the deeper we get into this competition.

Katelyn Epperly and Paige Miles also saw their value decrease, but the youngest female in the competition, Katie Stevens, saw her odds rise from +650 to +1400.

The voting public dug both Michael Lynche and Alex Lambert as both contestants saw huge chunks of value get bitten out of their odds.

Those on red alert this week are Tim Urban, Todrick Hall, Lacey Brown, and Aaron Kelly. All four of these contestants saw their odds take gigantic turns for the worst, which means they were all very close to one another in last week’s voting.

American Idol betting continues this week with the ladies going Tuesday followed by the guys the following night. The Top 12 will then be announced on Thursday night, and the gloves will be off the rest of the season. Check back each of the next two days to see which four contestants I believe gets the heave-ho.
