American Idol Betting - State of the Idol Address
by Mike Rose

Last Thursday’s American Idol betting elimination show was a major downer. Some unexpected twists occurred, and for the most part, I feel the voting public did a terrible job of forming the Top 12. Alex Lambert and Lilly Scott were by no means as bad as Katie Stevens, Paige Miles, Andrew Garcia, or Aaron Kelly, but nonetheless, they got the boot. Also joining them on the sidelines were Katelyn Epperly and Todrick Hall.
The trio of Scott, Epperly, and Lambert all saw their betting odds decrease at the open last week, so the dismissal of all three came as a surprise not only to me, but to the oddsmakers as well. Hall’s value ballooned from +3000 to +5000, so him getting voted off was by no means a shock. Sadly, a pair of really unique voices are no longer in this competition, which ultimately opens the door for what I believe to be more flawed competitors to kick it in.
The favorites held their ground at the open of this week’s AI betting odds with Crystal Bowersox jumping into the driver’s seat from a +400 return last week to a +150 underdog for the Top 12. She’s Simon’s favorite and certainly stands out as one of the best competitor’s in Season 9.
My favorite, Siobhan Magnus, checks in right behind her at +175. I’m hoping she has herself another “moment” this week while rocking out to the Rolling Stones.
Both Magnus and Bowersox look to be on the fast road to the Season 9 Finals, and the ladies odds reflect that, as the females jumped to -180 chalk to win it all after closing at -165 last week.
The male favorites saw no movement in their betting lines this week. Both Casey James and Lee DeWyze stood pat at +400 and +500 respectively; righty so since neither made much of an impact with last week’s performances.
The biggest movers in this week’s odds release were the ladies’ Didi Benami and the guys’ Michael Lynche.
Didi Benami simply blew away both Kara and Simon as both deemed her performance as momentous. The oddsmakers took a bite out of her value dropping her to +1200 after closing a +2000 choice last week.
As for Michael, he got a standing ovation from the crowd and had the judge’s freaking out after his Maxwell cover. Simon even deemed it the best live performance since American Idol Season 9 reached the Top 24. His odds plummeted from +2500 to +1000 at this week’s open.
BetUS Sportsbook has stepped back up to the plate after a year hiatus and rereleased weekly elimination odds for the rest of the season.
Those on red alert for this week are Paige Miles (+175), Lacey Brown (+300), Tim Urban (+400), Aaron Kelly (+500), and Katie Stevens (+500). I’ll just come out right now and say that Miles, Stevens, and Kelly better blow my socks off for me not to fade them come Wednesday night.
American Idol betting continues Tuesday night with all 12 contestants duking it out to the Rolling Stones. I’ll be back bright and early Wednesday morning with my take on the show along with some American Idol elimination bets. Stay tuned!
