What color will the Gatorade be that is dumped on the winning coach of Super Bowl 44?

It happens after every big win, on every football field in America. A supposedly unsuspecting coach has a tub of Gatorade or some other sports drink, dumped over his head.  The coach acts surprised but if you’re a coach, getting Gatorade dumped on you in the Super Bowl has to be the most satisfying shower you will take in your lifetime.

Gatorade takes its name from the Florida Gators, as back in 1965, Gators coach as the team doctor to come up with something to help his players practice during the hot Florida Summers. The team credited the magic mix of water, sodium, sugar, potassium, phosphate, and lemon juice as the reason for their first Orange Bowl win in 1967. After the win, Gatorade became a national phenomenon. 

When you are handicapping this Super Bowl Prop, there are a couple of things to remember, the two most popular Gatorade flavors are Lemon Lime and Fruit Punch. Lemon lime is obviously lime green, which goes off at 6/1, and Fruit Punch is red which will pay you 10/1.  Both are excellent values, if you bet the max on both colors you could win a cool $500 or $900 if one of the two most popular flavors is dumped on the coach.

Clear/Water offers good value at 3/2 considering water is the natural choice and the most popular beverage worldwide, although my Canadian friends will argue it is Molson Canadian. Because of Gatorade’s, sponsorship of the NFL, even water has to be served in a Gatorade branded jug.  Therefore, even if the liquid comes from a Gatorade jug, it doesn’t mean the coach is getting a Gatorade shower.

I’m going to follow my own advice and put some money on lime green and red and hope that the players will need their own G Moment in the hot South Florida night.
