Hertha Berlin enter this all important clash against Heerenveen as the clear favourites to win outright but after flopping both at home and Europe and undergoing coaching changes because of a poor run of form they look more likely to lose than win. Meanwhile, Heerenveen enter this match on a good run of results – save for a minor hiccup at the weekend, which really should chafe them, all that much. They have a lot to hope for in this match and they will hope to capitalize on Hertha’s abysmal form.

Heerenveen is on the right end of the mark because of a better goal difference but this would quickly change with a loss at Hertha Berlin. However, there is more at stake in this match than winning this tie. Both sides will be battling to move up in this section, possibly into second spot. They are only a point shy of second placed FK Ventspils and a positive result for either side in this match, together with a loss by Ventspils against Sporting Clube de Portugal (which is an almost certainty) would see them overhaul the Latvian outfit.
Hertha are in all sorts of trouble lately and enter this match on the heels of a four-match losing streak in all competitions. Heerenveen recently ended their four-match undefeated streak in all competitions with a close 1:0 loss to PSV in the Dutch League. Prior to that loss, however, Heerenveen beat SCD Putten 7:0 in Dutch Cup action and topped Sparta 2:0 in domestic league action. They went on to a scoreless draw against Ventspils in Europa League match day 2 and followed with a 1:1 draw against VVV Venlo in domestic action at the weekend. Going on form in the last month, I fancy Heerenveen’s chances to bounce back against Hertha Berlin who are struggling something awful lately.
