This year has been full of ups and downs for Liverpool. They haven't faired well in the English league but their Champions League success has the Anfield natives buzzing. The player that has stood out for Liverpool is newly awarded Egyptian, Mohammed Salah. Let's take a look at how Liverpool had their success in this year's Champions League.

Liverpool had some success in this year's English Premiership but they couldn't match the likes of either Manchester team. Klopps rivalry with Jose Mourinho is still heated with the two very outspoken managers, but Moreno finished ahead of Klop this year. Liverpool's most impressive win this year came was a 4-3 win over Manchester City. City also gave Liverpool their most embarrassing loss in a 5-0 beating.

Liverpool was able to hold off Chelsea in the closing weeks of league play and finish 4th and qualify for Champions League play next season. Liverpool was knocked out of the FA Cup early in the fourth round to a team that would eventually be relegated, West Brom. Liverpool also saw their Football League Cup big end early with a 2-0 loss to Leicester City in the 3rd round.

Liverpool fans almost suffered heartbreak when, after crushing Roma 5-2 in the first leg of the semi-finals, Roma crawled back and eventually lost 4-2 in the second leg.

What a season Mo Salah had! I don't think many saw his English Player of the Year award coming nor the records he shattered along the way. Salah finished atop the scoring charts with 32 goals, a Premier League record, beating out Kane, Lukaku, Aguero, etc.

The 3-man attacking force Liverpool employed was key to Liverpool and Salah's success. Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino' combined 25 goals in Premier League play made for an effective attack. Make no mistake, Salah is the star of this club. He ended the season with 44 total goals and has his eyes set on Real Madrid come May 26th.

Surely his days at Liverpool are numbered with the likes of Real Madrid to be rumored to acquire him. All that being said, Salah is just 25 and has many playing years ahead of him. The only question is: will he be able to keep it up? Many players have had these one or two good years but have failed to keep up with Messi and Ronaldo on paper or the pitch. For now, Egypt has a new King as Mo Salah continues to lead his team to the promised land.

Salah and company will have their hands full trying to overcome Ronaldo and the boys. Should be an up and down game with two high-flying attacks. Even as a Madrid supporter, this could be the hardest final Los Blancos have faced in their quest to three-peat. Best of luck to any Liverpool supporters and cheers to a good final !
