Soccer Betting Verdict: USA is continuing to build off their impressive run at the Confederations Cup that ended in a runner-up finish. They returned to home soil to defend their Gold Cup – albeit with a squad mostly comprised of B players. Nevertheless, they kicked off their Cup defence campaign with a resounding victory over Haiti. And they will look to carry the momentum against Honduras.
Pundits’ favourite Honduras are a solid side and they could give USA trouble. Yet, they are severely underestimated at +650 underdog odds. Interesting? I am not sure what the basis for such long shot odds were and I am rather perplexed by the bookies. Certainly, USA are on fire right now and determined to make noise on the international stage, but they are made up of B players mostly. The beat down over a weak side like Grenada was to be expected. Honduras is going to be a different ball game entirely. The Hondurans have sent a relatively good side to compete in this year’s Gold Cup instalment. They have significant quality and they are a side that could give USA something to think about in this tournament. Taking Honduras for the win might be the better play. If not the draw at +325 is a realistic option.
