Champions League: Girondins de Bordeaux vs. Olympiakos Piraeus
by Nila Amerova

Girondins de Bordeaux take a 1-0 lead from their first leg against Olympiakos Piraeus into the reverse leg at Stade Chaban-Delmas, Bordeaux. They are ahead in this tie and with home advantage, they need to but close out the tie in style.
Olympiakos Piraeus are on the back foot going into the second leg but they are not so far behind to be out of contention. Advancement into the quarterfinals is still possible because it is just a goal-deficit. But they will have to overcome a less than encouraging road record to do so. It is possible and in knowing this they have to be optimistic about their chances.

Soccer Betting Verdict: Olympiakos may well be optimistic but the bookies are not, listing them as the large+600 underdogs. Fact is, Olympiakos missed a huge opportunity to make a statement in the first leg when they hosted Bordeaux.
Now that they are taking on Bordeaux on their home patch where the French side have been solid, together with Olympiakos suspect road record, things are not looking promising. Where it is telling is in the futures market listed at +500 for Olympiakos to advance as well as the team totals, offered at ½ Over/Under.
It seems the bookies are expecting Olympiakos to be blanked out of the last 16 entirely. Of course, Olympiakos fans that believe in their side should find all these odds tempting and buck the trend.
For my part, Girondins de Bordeaux are the value bet in this match. They are listed at firm favourite odds of -200, a price-point that offers relatively decent reward for the risk. Moreover, the half-time market serves up excellent value in Bordeaux on +115 to take the lead as well as +190 on the draw.
In terms of the totals, the Over 2 ½ team totals is going for +120 which is revealing. The bookies clearly expect a low-scoring affair and after the first leg, I would have to say I agree. Better value is on the Under 2 ½ -140. I fancy a 2-0 score for Bordeaux which would fit in nicely with this market.
