Burnley and Stoke City collide in mid-week Premier League action on Wednesday. Burnley boast a fairly solid home mark while Stoke City are arguably a fair team in terms of home and road performance.

For awhile, Burnley managed to hold a good position in the league table – largely because of their performance at Turf Moor. All it took though was a slight dip in home form for reality to set into their campaign. They are now in the drop zone, 19th in the table and in danger of demotion.

Stoke City, on the other hand, are in solid form and solid position in the table. They are sitting 11th in the league table, on 34 points (ten points clear of the drop zone) after 27 cycles. More importantly, while they are better at home their road record does not let them down, picking up just over half their points on the road.

Having said that Burnley need survival points and a draw, although welcome (as the saying goes: beggars can’t be choosers), would be a disappointment. It would set them back further. A win could see them climb out of the relegation zone should their nearest rivals falter at the same time.
