ATP World Tour Season Begins on Sunday, Let the Betting Begin

The 2010 ATP World Tour season is all set to get underway on Sunday with some of the biggest names in the game competing in the three ATP events scheduled for the first week of the New Year. Here is a quick rundown of the three ATP events in Doha, Chennai and Brisbane, who is playing and what tennis bettors can expect.

Defending Champion: Andy Murray

Who is playing : Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Nikolay Davydenko, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Mikhail Youzhny, Viktor Troicki, Albert Montanes, and Ivo Karlovic.

Reigning world No.1 Roger Federer headlines a star-studded field in Doha. The Swiss is aiming to claim the first title on the season in Doha, what would be his third career Doha title (2005 and 2006) should he accomplish the feat. World No.2 Rafael Nadal, who is coming off a Davis Cup final victory for Spain, and Barclay’s ATP World Tour Finals champion, Nikolay Davydenko, are just two of many players looking to derail Federer from his ambition.

Defending Champion: Marin Cilic

Who is playing: Robin Soderling, Marin Cilic, Stanislas Wawrinka, Janko Tipsarevic, Dudi Sela, Simon Greul, Rajeev Ram and Lukas Lacko.

Defending champion Marin Cilic returns to Chennai to defend his title but he will face stiff opposition in Barclay’s ATP World Tour Finals semi-finalist Robin Soderling, Swiss No.2 Stanislas Wawrinka and Serbian dark horse Janko Tipsarevic.

Defending Champion: Radek Stepanek

Who is playing: Andy Roddick, Radek Stepanek, Gael Monfils, Tomas Berdych, Sam Querrey, Jeremy Chardy, Thomaz Belluci and Marcos Baghdatis.

Andy Roddick headlines a strong field at the Brisbane International, the first of several Australian Open series events in January. Roddick is joined by defending champion Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic, who surprised Fernando Verdasco in the final coming back from a set down to win the title match. Fellow Czech Tomas Berdych, France’s Gael Monfils and Jeremy Chardy and American Sam Querrey are just some of the players to watch.
