Big Names, Fan Favorites and Dangerous Floaters

Tokyo, Japan – A blockbuster second round line-up took shape after the close of first round tennis betting today. Stepping up to challenge some of the big names and fan favourites at the AIG Japan Open are some fast rising stars, potential upset makers and dangerous floaters that came through today, namely one of Japan’s very own title hopes Kei Nishikori.

So with so much betting action to look forward to here is a look at some of the matchups that are currently available in the tennis betting market.

Tennis Betting Line: Dudi Sela +250 Juan Martin Del Potro -400

Match Time: 09:00 PM Eastern Time Tuesday September 30, 2008

Tennis Betting Verdict: Betting favourite Juan Martin Del Potro has been on fire this season. Since winning his maiden title in Stuttgart, he went on an incredible run, picking up four back-to-back ATP titles, spanning two surfaces, and tallying a 24 match-winning streak that ended in the quarterfinal round of the US Open when he lost to Andy Murray. Recently, Del Potro won the deciding rubber in Davis Cup action between Russia and Argentina to put his country in the final.

No. 66 Dudi Sela brings a 15-21 mark for the year but last week he had an inspired run at the China Open where he finished runner-up (l. to Andy Roddick).

Tennis Free Picks: Del Potro in straight sets

Tennis Betting Line: Richard Gasquet -1000 Martin Slanar +500

Match Time: 09:00 PM Eastern Time Tuesday September 30, 2008

Tennis Betting Verdict: Richard Gasquet was dubbed “baby Federer” by many tennis experts for his playing style, and as a junior he was singled out as a promising future talent. However, the Frenchman has been a huge disappointment in more ways that I can begin to recount, especially this year. Sure, he still ranks in the top 20 but not for long if he does not turn things around. His performance this year has been hardly noteworthy; he has a 27-19 mark for the season. He is at risk of being upset maybe not in this match but soon. Heck, I would bet against him just because the odds are that good.

Tennis Free Picks: Slanar in straight sets

Tennis Betting Line: David Ferrer -500 Jesse Levine +300

Match Time: 09:00 PM Eastern Time Tuesday September 30, 2008

Tennis Betting Verdict: David Ferrer is the top seed of the tournament and defending champion but as he has been struggling lately, he is not a sure play. Normally, I would not consider an upset here but with only a 7-7 mark since his last title victory in June, many questions surround him as he gets set to begin his tournament. Although he should win this match only last week he lost to Dudi Sela in Beijing. If he is having a confidence crisis taking Levine for the win might be the better strategy.

Tennis Free Picks: Levine in straight sets
