Hyundai Hopman Cup Betting Tips - Russia, Germany, Great Britain and Kazakhstan

Bookmark and Share by Nila Amerova

The Hyundai Hopman Cup boasts its best ever field this year with world No.4 Andy Murray headlining the proceedings, along with Elena Dementieva, Lleyton Hewitt and Samantha Stosur to name a few. A regular fixture at the start of the tennis-betting season on both the ATP and WTA calendar the event enters its 22 nd year and with the big names in attendance this time around it promises to be a popular betting item at BetUS Sportsbook.

Here is a look at the action scheduled for Sunday and Monday Jan 2 nd and 3 rd, complete with BetUS tennis betting odds and lines.

Russia vs. Germany

Matches : Sunday January 3 rd 2010

Tennis Betting Lines: Russia -190 Germany +145
Men’s Matchup Line:
Igor Andreev Ev Philipp Kohlschreiber -140
Women’s Matchup:
Elena Dementieva -350 Sabine Lisicki +225

Russia enter this pairing as the favourites at -190 while Germany are marginally disadvantaged at +145. The player that gives Russia its favourite status weight has to be Elena Dementieva and the pressure will be on her to punch at her weight class. She is strongly favoured over Sabine Lisicki in the women’s singles pairing and she really has no excuse not to win this match. Igor Andreev is Russia’s weakest link in this pairing and after the season he had in 2009 he is understandably tipped at Even odds. It has to be said, Kohlschreiber, for a few credible performances, spread sporadically over the 2009 term, is beatable. The bookies tip him as the favourite but because he has a tendency to be inconsistent I would recommend bucking the trend. Take Andreev to win the men’s single match.

Great Britain vs. Kazakhstan

Matches: Monday January 4 th 2010

Tennis Betting Lines: Great Britain -300 Kazakhstan +200
Men’s Matchup Line:
Andrew Murray -2000 Andrey Golubev +800
Women’s Matchup:
Laura Robson +185 Yaroslava Shvedova -250

Great Britain enters their pairing against Kazakhstan as the solid favourites but let us be frank, the only reason why they are so strongly favoured is Andy Murray. Murray lends Britain its weight and he will be looked upon to carry his weight against Golubev. I don’t see an upset in this matchup so I would recommend betting on Murray to win his match outright. He is massively favoured so don’t expect a landslide win.

For tennis betting fans looking to bet against Murray, you might want to take a shot at Golubev. As an individual player, Golubev doesn’t have anything on Murray indeed. The umbrella of nationalism that shrouds this tournament presents an entirely different prospect. In some ways, it is a different thing entirely and the betting on it can be different as well. Tournaments like these have been known on occasion to move unheralded players to great feats against their peers. So why not Golubev. At +800, he is worth a shot. Also Murray doesn’t always come up with his best game in such a team or national environment.

The women’s pairing is where Kazakhstan has a real shot to get into the win column. Yaroslava Shvedova is significantly favoured over Laura Robson at -250 and for the most part, she is the value bet in this match. If she puts forward an exceptional account here she could improve Kazakhstan’s chance to go into the next round.
