MONTE CARLO, Monaco – World No. 1 Roger Federer made easy work of Lee Hyung-Taik in the third round today, defeating him 6-4, 6-3.
Roger Federer, who has never won this event, has reached the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters Series three straight times. On Friday, April 20th, Federer will appear at his fourth straight quarterfinal and, as fate would have it, he will face his 2006 quarterfinal challenger No. 16 David Ferrer.
In 2006, at the quarterfinal round of the Monte Carlo Master Series, Federer defeated Ferrer in straight sets, 6-1 6-3. Therefore, with a sense of déjà vu, here is my pick’s for tomorrow’s quarterfinal match between Federer and Ferrer.
Tennis Prediction: No. 1 Roger Federer kicked off his clay court season with a rather shaky start against Andreas Seppi in the second round. However, with an easy third-round match, Federer appears to be finding his rhythm on the slow, slippery and occasionally haphazard clay surface.
With what would appear to be another easy matchup in his run at this tournament, Federer, at -700, is the sure bet in this quarterfinal round. Leading 5-0 in head-to-heads against Ferrer, which includes victories on hard, clay and carpet surfaces, Federer holds a strong advantage.
Of course, Ferrer is an exceptional clay court player. But, with Federer’s determination to claim all Grand Slam titles this year, there is too much at stake to lose at this stage. With all indications leading to a final round between Federer and Nadal, it would be unlikely to imagine Ferrer obliterating the predicted outcome at this tournament by orchestrating the upset.
Federer might be winning everything these days, but with online sports betting in the tennis lines, odds and props to earn cold, hard cash!
