MONTE CARLO, Monaco – World No. 1 Roger Federer breezed past No. 16 David Ferrer in quick, easy sets, 6-4, 6-0 to advance into the semifinal round of the Monte Carlo Masters Series.

On the same side of the draw, Juan Carlos Ferrero battled back from a set down to Richard Gasquet to claim the victory in three sets 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.

Tennis Prediction: Leading 6-3 in their head-to-heads, No. 1 Roger Federer holds a great advantage over No. 21 Juan Carlos Ferrero. While this is the Federer’s first clay court tournament of the season, he is clearly finding his rhythm and, with characteristic ease, he is knocking his challengers out of the way. Moreover, with Rafael Nadal possibly waiting for him in the final round, it will take a great feat to halt Federer when he is so close to pitting himself against the ‘Clay Court King.’

The last time Ferrero defeated Federer was in 2003 on hard court. Clearly a long shot for the victory, the odds are against Ferrero scripting the upset in tomorrow’s match. At best, Ferrero can only hope his loss will not be a thorough defeat!
